Adair Turner, Baron Turner of Ecchinswell

Jonathan Adair Turner, Baron Turner of Ecchinswell (born 5 October 1955) is a British businessman and academic and was Chairman of the Financial Services Authority until its abolition in March 2013. He is a former Chairman of the Pensions Commission and the Committee on Climate Change, as well as a former Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry. He has described himself in a BBC HARDtalk interview with Stephen Sackur as a 'technocrat'. He is a vocal advocate of the so-called "helicopter money" idea whereby central banks would directly finance government spending or cash distribution to citizens. Since 2010, he has written monthly opinion columns on economic and regulatory policy for Project Syndicate.

Alan Campbell, Baron Campbell of Alloway

Alan Robertson Campbell, Baron Campbell of Alloway ERD QC (24 May 1917 – 30 June 2013) was a British judge, barrister and author who sat in the House of Lords as a life peer.
The son of John Kenneth Campbell and Juliet Pinner, he was educated at Aldenham School, Hertfordshire and Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris in 1934. He was further educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts in economics and law in 1938, and with a Master of Arts. From 1939 to 1940, Campbell served in the Royal Artillery Supplementary Reserve, British Expeditionary Force, reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant, and was a Prisoner of War in Colditz Castle from 1940 to 1945. He received the Emergency Reserve Decoration (ERD) in 1996.
Called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1939, he was made a Queen's Counsel in 1965 and a Bencher in 1972. In 1975 Campbell became a member of the Management Committee of the United Kingdom Association for European Law, and in 1976 he was appointed Recorder of the Crown Court, holding both posts until 1989. From 1974 to 1979 he was a member of the Law Advisory Panel of British Council, from 1988 to 1991 he was Vice-President of the Association des Juristes Franco-Britanniques and from 1978 to 2004 President of the Colditz Association. On 2 June 1981, he was created a life peer with the title Baron Campbell of Alloway, of Ayr in the District of Kyle and Carrick. He sat as a Conservative and was a member of the Scottish Peers' Association.
In 1947 Campbell married Diana Watson-Smyth. Divorced in 1953, he married secondly Vivien de Kantzow (died 27 December 2010) in 1957. He married for the third time at the age of 94 on 1 September 2011, in the Chapel of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, Dorothea Berwick, daughter of the late Colonel Edward and Lady Elizabeth Berwick. He had one daughter, the Hon. Sarah C. Campbell (b. 1950), by his first wife.
Following the death of Edward Short, Baron Glenamara in May 2012, Campbell became the oldest sitting member of the House of Lords.

He served as Lord Advocate, the senior Law Officer of Scotland, before becoming Lord Justice General and Lord President of the Court of Session, the head of the country's judiciary. He was then appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary (Law Lord) and became a Justice of the Supreme Court when the judicial functions of the House of Lords were transferred to that Court.

Alexander Bernstein, Baron Bernstein of Craigweil

Alexander Bernstein, Baron Bernstein of Craigweil (15 March 1936 – 13 April 2010) was a British television executive and a Labour member of the House of Lords.
Educated at Stowe School and St John's College, Cambridge, Bernstein joined the Granada Group, the leisure and television company founded by his uncle, Sidney, and his father, Cecil Bernstein. He was a director of the company, managing director of Granada Television in the 1970s, and Chairman of Granada Group 1979-96.
Bernstein was a major contributor to the Labour Leader's Office Fund run by Lord Levy to finance Tony Blair's private office. He was created a life peer as Baron Bernstein of Craigweil, of Craigweil in the County of West Sussex, on 15 May 2000. He was also active in the arts, serving on several governing bodies and trusts.
He married Vanessa Anne Mills in 1962; they had a son and a daughter, and divorced in 1993. In 1995, he married Angela Mary Serota, the former wife of Sir Nicholas Serota.

Alexander Scrymgeour, 12th Earl of Dundee

Alexander Henry Scrymgeour, 12th Earl of Dundee, DL (born 5 June 1949) is a Scottish peer, Conservative politician and Chief of the Clan Scrymgeour.
Born on 5 June 1949 Dundee is the son of Henry Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, 11th Earl of Dundee, and Patricia Montagu Douglas Scott. He was educated at Eton College and the University of St Andrews. He is a Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II.
Lord Scrymgeour's first active experience as a Conservative politician was as the party's candidate in the Hamilton by-election in 1978. He has sat in the House of Lords since his father's death in 1983, and served as a Lord-in-waiting (Conservative Party whip in the House of Lords) from 1986 to 1989. He served as Government Spokesperson for Education (1986–88), Government Spokesperson for Scottish Affairs (1986–89), Government Spokesperson for Home Affairs and for Energy from (1987–89). He was made an elected hereditary peer (as Earl of Dundee) in 1999.He has served as the UK delegate to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe from 1992 to 1997. He was also a Member of the Council of Europe parliament and the Western European parliament from 1992 to 1999. The Earl is honorary consul for Croatia in Edinburgh, and is decorated with the Order of Prince Branimir. The Dundee Trust works on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia on behalf of DFID to distribute humanitarian aid to some of the poorest people in the Balkans.  
A farmer of thirty years' experience, Lord Dundee's Farming Company manages some 20,000 acres over the counties of Fife and Angus. Dundee has sat in the House since 1983 where he has exercised his privileges on a number of agriculture and environmental standing committees. Most recently his interests have turned to health questions.Lord Dundee is also the Hereditary Royal Standard Bearer of Scotland, Constable of Dundee, and Chief of the Name and Arms of Scrymgeour. He is a member of the New Club, Edinburgh and Whites in London.

Robert Alistair McAlpine, Baron McAlpine of West Green (14 May 1942 – 17 January 2014) was a British businessman, politician and author who was an advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.McAlpine was descended from the McAlpine baronets who made their fortune in the construction industry. McAlpine held a variety of jobs before becoming prominent in British politics in the 1980s as the treasurer and a major fundraiser of the Conservative Party. A close ally of Thatcher, McAlpine did not support her successor as Prime Minister John Major, and later joined James Goldsmith's Referendum Party. McAlpine later rejoined the Conservatives but resigned his seat in the House of Lords.
Outside politics McAlpine was prominent in a variety of business developments in Australia as well as being an art collector and memoirist.

Allen Sheppard, Baron Sheppard of Didgemere

Allen John George Sheppard, Baron Sheppard of Didgemere, KCVO (25 December 1932 – 25 March 2015) was a British industrialist and Conservative member of the House of Lords.
He was educated at Ilford County High School and the London School of Economics. He worked first in car manufacturing: Ford of Britain and Ford of Europe, 1958–68; Rootes/Chrysler, 1968–71; British Leyland, 1971–75. He then moved to Grand Metropolitan, 1975–96, being Chief Executive, 1986–93 and Chairman, 1987–96.
From 1996 to 2003, he was non-executive Chairman of GB Railways Group Plc, a train company listed on the Alternative Investment Market which operated the Anglia Railways franchise, and which launched GB Railfreight and Hull Trains.
He was chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prince's Youth Business Trust, 1990–94 and of the Prince's Trust Council, 1995-98. He was a member of the Board of Management of the Conservative Party, 1993-98. He was a governor of LSE since 1989 and was Chancellor, Middlesex University 2000-13.
He received a knighthood in 1990 Birthday Honours, having the accolade conferred by The Queen on 4 December 1990. He was created a life peer as Baron Sheppard of Didgemere, of Roydon in the County of Essex on 6 September 1994, and was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 1998 New Year Honours.

Ambrose Charles Drexel Greenway, 4th Baron Greenway (born 21 May 1941) is a British marine photographer and shipping consultant. He is one of the ninety hereditary peers elected to remain in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, sitting as a crossbencher.
The son of the 3rd Baron Greenway, he was educated at Winchester College. In 1975, Greenway succeeded to his father's titles and in 1987, he was a younger brother of Trinity House. From 1994 to 2000, he was chairman of The Marine Society and from 1995 to 2004 Vice-President of the Sail Training Association. Since 2003, he has been also chairman of The World Ship Trust. 
Since 1985, he has been married to Rosalynne Peta Fradgley.

Andrew Adonis, Baron Adonis  (born Andreas Adonis; 22 February 1963) is a British Labour Party politician, academic and journalist who served in the UK government for five years as part of the Blair ministry and the Brown ministry. He was Secretary of State for Transport from 2009 to 2010, and Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission from 2015 to 2017.
Adonis began his career as an academic at Oxford University, before becoming a journalist at the Financial Times and later The Observer. Adonis was appointed by Prime Minister Tony Blair to be an advisor at the Number 10 Policy Unit, specialising in constitutional and educational policy, in 1998. He was later promoted to become the Head of the Policy Unit from 2001 until being made a life peer in 2005, when he was appointed to the Government soon after as Minister of State for Education. He remained in that role when Gordon Brown became Prime Minister in 2007, before becoming Minister of State for Transport in 2008. In 2009, he was promoted to the Cabinet as Transport Secretary, a position he held until 2010.Adonis has worked for a number of think tanks, is a board member of Policy Network and is the author or co-author of several books, including several studies of the British class system, the rise and fall of the Community Charge, and the Victorian House of Lords. He has also co-edited a collection of essays on Roy Jenkins. He was educated at Keble College and Christ Church at the University of Oxford.
Following the 2016 referendum on UK membership of the European Union, he then became a key campaigner for a second referendum on British departure from the EU.

Andrew Rutherford Hardie, Baron Hardie, PC, QC (born 8 January 1946) is a former Senator of the College of Justice, a judge of the Supreme Courts of Scotland, and a former Lord Advocate, the country's senior Law Officer.
