Plot Holes In 'How I Met Your Mother' Fans Somehow Noticed

List RulesVote up the plot holes too big to ignore.

How I Met Your Mother is celebrated for its heart, humor, and narrative structure. The series is a story that the main character Ted, in the year 2030, is telling his children about how he met their mother. Since the events that he's describing happened decades ago, Ted is an unreliable narrator who makes many continuity errors. Cop out? Some fans think so, which is why many of the following plot holes are blamed not on Ted but on HIMYM's writers. These are the biggest plot holes fans found in the hit series.

    Can Barney Drive?

    Photo: CBS

    From Redditor u/herowcatsmanzzz:

For those of you who don't remember: in season five, a few episodes earlier, Lily and Marshall agree to have kids when the universe sends them a sign by showing them the fifth doppelganger (Barney). They think that they do because they see a cab driver identical to Barney but with brown hair. It turns out, however, that it actually is just Barney pretending to be a cab driver to sleep from women around the world.

The plothole, however, is that Barney has no idea how to drive. They have established this many times because not only did he grow up in New York City, thus having no big need to learn, he obviously has a huge fear of driving (shown in the episode where Ted tries to help him and Barney pees himself because they were driving below five miles per hour and the car bumped a bush).

What I am saying is that Barney never says that he is going to learn again. Even if he did just for this crappy pick up scheme he wouldn't get over his insane fear so easily. In the episode he drives like it's no big deal and like he has been doing it for years.

    Just a thought.

So I haven't seen anyone out there point this out yet but after watching a few hundred times I finally caught on to that Halloween episode where Robin says she's not a team player and references only playing singles tennis in highschool. But then in another episode mentions playing girls field hockey, and much later, after Ted gets left at the altar, she has a flashback to being very boyish looking and playing on an ice hockey team.

    Who's Aunt Robin?

Just rewatching the pilot for the umpteenth time, and can't believe the kids' shock at the end when he says "... is how I met your Aunt Robin." The kids haven't noticed that their aunt is a newscaster and that, from what they remember and other stories involving her, her mother wasnt?
