The Book of Mormon contains many passages about sex and relationships for the happy Mormon couple—from masturbation to procreation, the Church has opinions on all of it. Sex life is weird in general, but let's make it more interesting by adding religion to the conversation. Here are a few interesting facts about how the Church of Latter Day Saints views sex and sexuality.
Sex Is About the Promise of Babies and Expression of Love
...Just like everyone else. Though it is absolutely verboten outside of marriage, the Church's Chastity laws on LDS.org say of sex:
"Physical intimacy between husband and wife is beautiful and sacred. It is ordained of God for the creation of children and for the expression of love within marriage."
Birth Control Is Fine—Abortion Not so Much
According to the LDS Church's official website, whether or not to use birth control is completely up to the couple. Contrary to the popular notion that Mormons are encouraged to have big families by their Church, the decision of how many children to have is "a private matter for the husband and wife."
Unfortunately, this is not really the case with abortion—it is "contrary to the commandments of God."
Pornography is Condemned
Porn is a no-no in Mormonism. According to BYU's website, the LDS Church condemns all forms of pornography. They lay out the reason as such: "Most of it presents highly inaccurate, unscientific, and distorted information about human sexuality. It is, in a sense, sex miseducation marketed for financial gain in a variety of formats, including books, magazines, motion pictures, television, videotapes, and even telephone."
Masturbation Is a Sin
Parents are advised by the Church to teach their adolescent kids that masturbation is a sin and that they don't have to do it, despite what their bodies are telling them. Says the LDS Church's official website:
"Teach your children that the prophets have condemned it as a sin throughout the ages and that they can choose not to do it...It is a perversion of the body's passions."
