The Train Wreck That Was Johnny Depp And Kate Moss: The Most Self-Destructive Couple of The 1990s

Johnny Depp has had numerous high-profile romances, but the one that dominated headlines in the 1990s was his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss. Johnny Depp and Kate Moss were off in their own world when they dated, in love and lust with each other for the world to see. As Johnny Depp's girlfriend, Kate Moss found a partying companion, and the couple made headlines all over the world for their volatile exchanges as well as their expensive taste. As one of Johnny Depp's famous exes, she remains a defender of Depp as his recent love life has become fodder for rumors and accusations.

Regardless of what has happened since, Johnny and Kate's high-profile relationship still remains an iconic part of '90s culture, and let's be real - it's hard to not be fascinated when two of the most beautiful and wild people in the world come together like fire and ice.

  • Depp Trashed A Hotel Room In 1994 And Paid Almost $10,000 To Cover It

After meeting at a restaurant through a mutual friend in 1994, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were inseparable. Moss was only 20 at the time, had no permanent home, and found passion and a place to live with Depp, 11 years her senior. Friends at the time observed, "They can’t keep their hands, lips, mouths, legs off of each other," a testament to the passion between them.

That passion bubbled over to more than just sex. Not too long after getting together, Depp was arrested for destroying the Presidential Suite at the Mark Hotel in New York City. Depp was charged with criminal mischief and ordered to pay $9,767.12. Moss wasn't harmed or arrested.

  • Depp And Moss Did Numerous Photo Shoots Together, Some Of Them Showing A Lot Of Skin

As public figures, Moss and Depp were no strangers to the camera and, rather fittingly, Depp had Moss be a guest for two of his photo shoots in 1994. One was done by Annie Leibovitz, the other by Francois-Marie Banier.

In the one by Leibovitz, Moss is topless on the bed with Depp clutching her torso. Banier's photos show the couple doing common things like drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes, two things they both loved.

  • Depp Wanted To Expand Her Mind So He Introduced Moss To His Favorite Musicians And Writers

Johnny Depp brought Iggy Pop, Jack Kerouac, and Hunter S. Thompson, among others, into Kate Moss's life. Moss didn't think she was good enough for Depp so she gladly let him influence her.

Through her relationship with Depp, Moss developed a true appreciation of the written word, even talking about Kerouac with reporters

Depp And Moss Tried To Live Together But It Ultimately Killed The Relationship

Kate Moss has said, "There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said," which is definitely an indication of how much she depended upon him. This dependence extended over to their living situation. The couple tried to live together for six months in New York and when they got to Los Angeles, Moss again set up camp at Depp's home. Her neediness was too much for Depp, however, who thought that she was only staying with him until she found a place of her own. On top of the clinginess, Moss's partying was out of control. She was known as "the Tank" due to her ability to "snort three grams of coke and drink a bottle of vodka" in one sitting.

After the couple broke up in 1997, Depp admitted the failure of their relationship was his fault. He said, "I have been so stupid because we had so much going for our relationship. I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened - I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done."

  • It Was Rumored They Bathed In 36 Bottles Of Champagne In A Hotel Bathroom

In January 1998, a bathtub at the Portobello Hotel in West London was filled with champagne by a mysterious couple, one American and one British. The champagne bath cost £750 and, after a quick dip, the couple went out for the evening, only to have the maid enter the room and drain the liquid. The big question - who was the couple?

It was quickly rumored to have been Kate Moss and Johnny Depp, but the hotel would not give out the names. Meanwhile, Depp and Moss denied that they had been at the hotel, much less in a tub full of bubbly.

  • Moss Said She Cried For 'Years' After The Relationship Ended

According to both Depp and Moss, the end of their relationship involved tears - a lot of them. Johnny Depp said that he cried for a week after they broke up and that he'd never been "that emotional over a woman before."

Moss admitted that she spent years crying over Depp, because "I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!"
