After over thirty years in show business, actor Keanu Reeves is having his moment in the spotlight in what some are calling a "Keanussaince." Action-packed John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has done better than many of his movies in recent years, his self-aware send-up in the Netflix rom-com Always Be My Maybe has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, and Marvel is courting him as their next megastar. Combine this with his "nicest guy in Hollywood" reputation and his apparent inability to age, and Keanu Reeves has become the newest boyfriend of both Hollywood and the internet.
Here are some wonderful moments from the Keanussaince which have made everyone take notice. A 2019 New Yorker article even exclaimed "Keanu Reeves is too good for this world," and its author just might be right. Fans who watch Reeves's every move have noticed how respectful he is to everyone he meets, and nowhere is this more evident than in fan photos. In pictures with female fans and celebrities alike, he either keeps his hands visible or puts them in his pockets.
Some fans believe he's doing this to "not take chances" in the wake of the #MeToo movement, while others think he's just being polite and respecting people's personal space. Whatever his reasons, the internet has dubbed him "the Respectful King."
While being interviewed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for John Wick: Chapter 3, Reeves left Colbert speechless with a succinct yet touching answer to a question that many would find impossible.
After some light, movie-related banter, Colbert hit Reeves with a heavy question, asking him what he thinks happens after a person passes. Reeves, who is no stranger to tragedy, took a breath before answering, "I know that the ones who love us will miss us."
After the clip aired, the moment went viral, further endearing Reeves to the internet's collective heart.
Countless social media posts laud Reeves's onscreen talents and offscreen behavior. The only person who seems uncomfortable with all this praise is Reeves himself. When asked about his status as the "internet's boyfriend" at the premiere of Toy Story 4, he seemed both embarrassed and surprised by the designation, saying:
"I've been called what? That's, uh, that's wacky. Well, the positivity's great."
Reeves shocked just about everyone in the gaming world when he showed up to promote Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox in 2019. During his introduction, a fan yelled out, "You're breathtaking!" Reeves responded, "You're breathtaking! You're all breathtaking!" The crowd went wild, and the clip, of course, went viral.
The person who initially called out to Reeves, YouTuber Peter Sark, also went viral and was given a free Cyberpunk 2077 Collector's Edition for his compliment.
In response to the incident, Reeves's fans have even begun a petition asking game-maker CD Projekt to create a Cyberpunk 2077 completion trophy called "You're Breathtaking."
