Everybody's heard some crazy Kesha stories. The self-described party animal and free spirit got back to making music and dropping jaws in 2016 after a hiatus that followed her lawsuit against Dr. Luke - the Sony Music producer who, Kesha alleged, sexually assaulted her - and we couldn't be happier! She's put out some jams in the past, many of which fueled some unbelievable rumors about Kesha. It can be hard to separate fact from fiction, so read on for the true stories from Kesha's life, as told by the pop star/warrior/savage herself. No judgment, "We R Who We R," after all.
Before she was our favorite glitter-loving savage, Kesha was just a singer trying to make it in Hollywood. Since Kesha is Kesha, she apparently turned to unconventional methods to strike it big. She said she broke into Prince's house to leave him a copy of her demo.
Kesha told Jimmy Fallon in 2014 that she bribed the gardener with $5 to slip under the singer's gate. The door was open, so she walked into his purple, velvety house where she encountered the singer.
"I go up in the elevator and I come out, and I'm on the phone with my mom saying, 'I think I may get arrested,' and then I walk out, and there's Prince playing the guitar, with a beanie on, and I almost pooped my pants. He just kind of looked at me funny. He gave me a look like, 'Who the hell are you?' and I waved around my CD, I put it on the table, and then I ran away."
Kesha said she never heard back from Prince, but we can only hope she gave him a story to tell at dinner parties.
Kesha was apparently quite literally the life of the party from the start. She said she was born at her mother's party in the San Fernando Valley in 1987. "My mom had a bunch of people over because she was about to pop and then all of a sudden her water broke and out I came," Kesha told Us Weekly. "Then she had to be taken to the hospital, so I just stayed with her best friend and hung out." This explains SO MUCH.
Another fun tidbit? In 2011, Kesha said her placenta was her favorite keepsake.
“My mom found it in my basement, crushed it up, and made it into a necklace that I wear every day to improve my psychic abilities," she told Spin.
According to Kesha's healer, part of Kesha's job is to "exude light," which makes her vulnerable to spirits and the like. "Dead entities cling to me," the singer explained to Rolling Stone. To rid Kesha's vagina of one of these entities, the singer said, the healer performed a vaginal exorcism.
"There's a lot of screaming and grabbing energies and she was talking in tongues," Kesha said of the ritual. "She was speaking Latin or something, I'm not really sure. It was definitely another language, and she was making all sorts of crazy noises. At one point she started choking." It is unclear if this is related to Kesha's claim that she had sex with a ghost.
Every artist gets inspiration from their personal life. Kesha told Ryan Seacrest that her 2012 song "Supernatural" was inspired by "sexy" encounters with a ghost. “It’s about experiences with the supernatural... but in a sexy way,” she said. “I had a couple of experiences with the supernatural. I don’t know his name! He was a ghost! I’m very open to it.”
She's not alone - lots of celebs say they've done the dirty with ghosts.
