List of Legion of Merit winners; people honored/groups honored with this award/distinction since its inception. Listed alphabetically but can be sorted by any column. The Legion of Merit, also known as the LOM is an award of the United States Armed Forces that is given out for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The decoration is issued to members of the seven uniformed services of the United States, but it is mostly given to military and political figures of foreign governments. There are different types of Legion of Merit award. The first, the Commander degree, is one of only two United States military decorations to be issued as a neck order the other one is the Medal of Honor and it is the only United States decoration which may be issued in award degrees. The list of the Legion of Merit winners features every single person who taken home the medal since its inception in the 1940s, around the time of World War II.
