Making waves as the first handheld video game unit to offer a color LCD screen, the Atari Lynx was the first of its kind and produced a number of fun and exciting Atari Lynx games. The list of Atari Lynx games includes some top names that remained popular on newer video game consoles such as NFL Football, Paperboy and Lemmings, among others.
Released by the Atari Corporation in 1989, the Lynx initially beat its main competitor, the monochrome Nintendo Game Boy, but slow sales failed to attract top game developers and within a few years the unit was discontinued. Before it was sent to the video game graveyard, it did produce around 120 games.
A handful of the Atari Lynx games, similar to Sony Pictures video games, were based on popular films at the time such as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Batman Returns. Other games were similar to popular games, but renamed slightly different due to licensing restrictions such as the Tetris clone T-tris and the Pac-Man lookalike Pac-Land.Be them officially licensed or knockoff titles, the Atari Lynx games and color handheld gaming unit at one time were the best available in the market and for that we remember them fondly.
