List of famous geneticists, with photos, bios, and other information when available. Who are the top geneticists in the world? This includes the most prominent geneticists, living and dead, both in America and abroad. This list of notable geneticists is ordered by their level of prominence, and can be sorted for various bits of information, such as where these historic geneticists were born and what their nationality is. The people on this list are from different countries, but what they all have in common is that they're all renowned geneticists.

This list is made up of famous genetic scientists like George Church and Barbara McClintock.

From reputable, prominent, and well known geneticists to the lesser known geneticists of today, these are some of the best professionals in the geneticist field. If you want to answer the questions, "Who are the most famous geneticists ever?" and "What are the names of famous geneticists?" then you're in the right place.

James Dewey Watson is an American molecular biologist, geneticist and zoologist, best known as one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA in 1953 with Francis Crick. Watson, Crick, and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material". After studies at the University of Chicago and Indiana University, Watson did postdoctoral research to absorb chemistry with the biochemist Herman Kalckar in Copenhagen. Watson next worked at the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory in England, where he first met his future ...more

George Church is professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for Computational Genetics. With degrees from Duke University in chemistry and zoology, he co-authored research on 3D-software and RNA structure with Sung-Hou Kim. His Ph.D. from Harvard in biochemistry and molecular biology with Wally Gilbert included the first direct genomic sequencing method in 1984; initiating the Human Genome Project then as a Research Scientist at newly-formed Biogen Inc. and a Monsanto Life Sciences Research Fellow at UCSF. He invented the broadly-applied concepts of molecular multiplexing and tags, homologous recombination methods, and array DNA synthesizers. Technology ...more
