List Rules
Vote up your favorite long PS4 games that take an eternity to beat.

Sometimes, you just need to sit down with a good video game and get lost for a few hours... or maybe a few hundred. While incredibly long playtimes can be intimidating to some, others find immense game worlds exciting and engaging. If that's you, there are tons of great games out there that'll help the hours melt away, whether you're into RPGs, action adventures, or stealth games. You might even get lost in a game within a game, which, to be fair, may offer some interesting meta-commentary about the nature of games in the first place.

If you're looking to burn some time, check out our list below of popular PlayStation 4 games that take forever to finish. Whether it's slashing your way through the main storyline in The Witcher 3 or trying to finish all the various side quests in Skyrim and RDR2, these epic and sprawling titles are known for sucking gamers in for weeks, months, and even years at a time. Note that the playtimes listed are rough estimates; some players will take a lot longer to finish a game and all its accompanying quests, while other players will breeze through them with epic speeds. Also keep in mind that some of these games feature very expansive DLCs, which definitely help increase the overall time it takes to complete various campaigns and play all the way through to completion.

If you have a few dozen hours to kill and are looking for an epic title to get lost in, check out all the longest PS4 games that take a lifetime to complete and vote your favorites up to the top.

  • Main Story: Roughly 50 hours
    Extra quests: 120-130 hours
Playing to completion: Around 200 hours

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is a high fantasy RPG that features an engaging storyline and dozens of interesting side quests (which many have said rank among the best content in the game).  When you include both DLCs—and you should: they're amazing—players can spend an almost limitless amount of time exploring, taking up contracts, bartering with the locals, and generally doing all the things a Witcher should do. Unlike similar fantasy RPGs like Skyrim, it focuses a great deal on storytelling and characterization, and even has its own very addictive game within the game, a card game called Gwent.

The Witcher III's main storyline will take most players 50 to 55 hours, although some players will take about 130 hours given all of the side content. The longest playthroughs can take over 200 hours, so you won't have to worry about running out of things to do with this one.

    Main story: Roughly 45 hours
    Extra quests: 70-80 hours
Playing to completion: Around 160 hours

Want to switch gears and travel back to the wild west? Saddle up with Red Dead Redemption 2, the sequel to one of the most beloved games of the previous console generation. Red Dead 2 is known for its attention to detail and incredible visuals, so it makes for an engaging experience whether you're robbing stagecoaches or simply playing around in photo mode. This action-adventure game is one that will have you entertained for hours.

Roughly 50 hours, actually, if you're just playing through the main story. With the side quests, which are always a good time, will take you about 80 hours, and if you're looking to explore every corner of the map, you're looking at about 160 hours.

    Main Story: Roughly 35 hours
    Extra quests: 200+ hours
Playing to Completion: Around 1000 hours (with DLCs and extras)

This sprawling high fantasy action RPG is one of the most well-loved titles in all of gaming, and it's not very hard to see why. It's got dragons, magic, and tons of interesting lore to dive into. Skyrim is best known for being the game that's been released and re-released on every platform imaginable, but that accessibility gives you no excuse to get cracking on this classic, regardless of your preferred platform.

The main storyline of Skyrim only takes around 35-40 hours to beat, which is pretty comparable to most AAA campaigns. However, what makes this game a bit of a time commitment is all of the optional side content the player can partake in. While someone who wants to see everything may clock in at around 300 hours, the most extreme completionists have spent roughly 1300 hours playing Skyrim. Now that's dedication.

    Persona 5

    Main story: Roughly 95 hours
    Extra quests: 110-115 hours
Playing to completion: Around 250 hours

Persona 5 is the technically the sixth installment in the Persona series and is one of the most well-loved JRPGs in recent memory. It was met with universal acclaim and has sold more copies than any other Persona titles. The story is set in modern-day Tokyo, where a high school student called Joker realizes he has special powers and creates a secret group of vigilantes with his fellow students. As far as gameplay goes, it's a mix of social simulation, role-playing, and dungeon crawling.

The main story clocks in at a hefty 100 hours, but there isn't much side content to ratchet up your playtime. However, some completionists have spent a good 250 hours in the game, so if you really want to stick around, you'll find plenty to do.

    Main story: Roughly 40 hours
    Extra quests: 80-90 hours
Playing to completion:  Around 200 hours

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is the 11th major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the twenty-first overall. That being said, it had its work cut out for it not to get lost among the crowd, and it certainly rose to the occasion. The game is set in 431 BCE and tells the story of the Peloponnesian War, a mythological conflict between Athens and Sparta. Odyssey was noted for being the first installment in the AC franchise where the player could choose either a male for female gender for the playable character.

The main storyline for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey averages out at about 40 hours, with some players taking around 80 hours to explore side content. For the most dedicated players, the runtime maxes out at about 200 hours.

    Fallout 4

    Main story: Roughly 35 hours
    Extra quests: 70-80 hours
Playing to completion: Around 200 hours

Fallout 4 is another popular action RPG from Bethesda, and it certainly didn't pull punches as the fourth installment in the Fallout franchise. The main story takes place 210 years after The Great War that caused the, well, nuclear fallout after which the games are titled, and 10 years after the events of Fallout 3. The player wakes up as the sole survivor from Vault 111, and must venture out into the wasteland to find their son after he is forcefully taken from them.

The main questline of Fallout 4 should take you roughly 35 hours to complete, with side content getting you to about 75-80 hours. Completionists have landed anywhere in the range from 200-325 hours, so it seems your time in the wastleland is truly what you make of it.
