Longest Running Animated Series

List of the longest-running animated TV shows in US history. These animated TV series have more episodes than any others in American television. Some of the shows ran and have since gone off the air or been canceled, while others remain ongoing and are still being produced. Typically, these shows were collected into "seasons" of television, each with a pre-set amount of episodes. Sometimes, these seasons were broken up, in some cases with years or even decades between production of the series, while still being considered the run of a single TV show. (Spin-offs and other shows that were reinvented and debuted as new series are not considered.) This list contains all the longest-running shows ever in the history of TV animation. Several of these long-running animated shows have been on the air since 1999.

What is the longest running animated series? The single longest-running animated TV show in US history is The Simpsons with an amazing 600+ episodes (and one of the oldest, still going strong). Other animated series with significant runs include Rugrats, which ran two independent 'series' with a 2 year gap in between. Beavis and Butthead also represents a show going away and then returning, in this case after a much more considerable hiatus of over a decade. From current Nickelodeon shows to adult animation programs, a lot of shows on this list are still going strong.
