Work can be a very stressful place. And as any makeup junkie knows, looking your best at work isn't always the easiest. That's why we here at Ranker's Makeup Junkie want to give you our go-to makeup products for work that make us look like #bosses. When choosing the best makeup products for the job, we considered a lot of factors: what are the essentials we put on every day, and how long do they last? So we asked some of our makeup editors for their fave makeup staples to put on before work that get the job done.
From miracle moisturizers to marathon meeting-proof mascara, these are our editor's top picks for must-have makeup for work.
Two of our editors swear by this product for their everyday brow look. Heather says everyone knows eyebrows set the tone for your entire look, and this product delivers.
"Anastasia’s Dipbrow allows you to precisely sculpt and fill in your brows," she says. Lowe agrees, saying: "The absolute perfect brow product IMO. It gets my too-light brows dark but not too dark, neat but not too perfect looking.
Multiple editors said they loved Lime Crime's Matte Velvetine lipstick. Lowe opts for the Wicked shade, while Ananda loves Psycho.
"It doesn't feather, it lasts all day, and only needs a tiny bit of lip liner," Lowe says. "I think it takes a basic work outfit to the next level."
Our editor Crystal loves Two Faced's Better Than Sex. Is it really better though? "It makes my lashes long AF," she says.
If you want a liquid liner to last you all day, editor Erin says Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Liner is it. "It's seriously pigmented and the felt tip makes it easy to draw on a cat-eye hassle free," she says.
Editor Maggie loves Milk's Blur Liquid Matte Foundation for her sensitive skin. " I have oily, sensitive skin with large pores near my nose. It hides large pores without blocking them and causing break outs," she says. "Plus, it is easy to apply and build coverage with just your fingers."
Tarte Shape Tape is one of the best concealers on the market, and editor Kate agrees. "I have natural under eye circles, and this covers them better than anything else," she says.
Before any makeup junkie puts on their makeup, they need a good primer. And Ananda swears by Smashbox's Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer. "I've used every primer under the sun," she says, "and this beats out all of them."
Lowe says she's tried lots of concealers - but L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Toffee is her fave. "Nothing does a better job of sculpting my brows than this cheap steal," she says.
Want a foundation that covers everything? Heather swears by Estée Lauder's Double Wear Foundation. "It's the perfect medium-coverage foundation that will not only cover your imperfections, but will stay on the entire workday."
Sarah says she's got a pale complexion, meaning she's wary about what lip colors she can use. That's why she loves Revlon's Kiss Lip Balm in Juicy Peach. "It keeps my lips moisturized and the light wash of color is great for my super pale, redhead skin."
A good primer sets your face for the day - whether or not you're wearing a full face of makeup. Editor Patrick swears by Glossier's Priming Moisturizer, which he says works wonders. "Their Perfecting Skin Tint in Medium is a lifesaver," he says. "It's lighter than foundation and is the perfecting thing for my chronic under eye circles."
Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Bold Volume Mascara is a must for Erin's morning routine. "It lasts all day, holds the perfect curl, and lengthens my lashes to high heaven," she says.
A brow can make or break a makeup look, which is why Patrick perfects his with Glossier's Boy Brow. "A tiny bit of [that] and I'm ready to start the day," he says.
Worried about under eye circles and lines? Ananda swears by L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Eye Smoother. "It's my post-30 must for making sure all the under eye concealer I need doesn't fall into lines," she says.
Want a highlighter that isn't too overpowering? Kate recommends BECCA's Shimmering Poured Creme Highlighter in Champagne Pop. "When I want my skin to glow a little bit without looking like I'm going to the club, I put this on," she says.
The first step before applying any lipstick should be making sure your lips are smooth and supple. Maggie's go-to is Smith's Rosebud Salve. "My lips are prone to dryness. Slathering this on at night and before I head out the door in the morning keeps them soft and crack-free," she says.
Ananda loves full coverage, which is why she opts for Kat Von D's Lock-It Foundation. "It's been my go-to for years," she says.
Mascara should make your eyes pop - and be good for your eyelashes. Which is why Heather loves Clinique's High Impact Mascara. "It lengthens, strengthens, and has never let me down," she says.
Wanna make your eyes pop without going full smokey eye glam? Patrick swears by Yves Saint Laurent Dessin du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencil in brown to define his eyes without overdrawing them. "I put a little bit along the upper lid and outer corner of the bottom lid that I then smudge to give a barely-there smokey eye," he says.
Crystal loves MAC Liquidlast Eyeliner because it does exactly what the name implies. "It never fades," she says. "It's my Number 1."
Need to hide tired eyes without breaking the bank? Maggie's go-to is e.l.f. Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter. "This is one of the only under eye concealers that doesn't crease throughout the day," she notes. "The highlighter end is a nice bonus - I use it on the inner corners of my eyes to make myself look more awake," she added.
If you want a light lip tint that also tastes good, Erin recommends you try Skinfood Tomato Jelly Tint Lip. "It's the perfect swatch of color to brighten my dead face," she jokes.
Any great makeup look can be even better with the right setting powder, and Ananda holds one above all others. "Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder locks in problem areas for all-day shine control," she says.
