Characters Most Likely To Bite The Dust In Marvel Phase 3

In Marvel comics, death in comics is a pretty common occurrence. After all, Death is a comic book character - Thanos is in love with her and Deadpool has dated her. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely start reflecting that side of comics more in Phase 3, and start having more fatalities in the line of duty.

Heroes are likely to start dropping in Marvel movies for a multitude of reasons: contracts are expiring, storylines are coming to an end, more actors means more scheduling conflicts, it's logical for legacy character purposes, and loss will raise the dramatic stakes and emotional weight of these films. Whether or not they'll stay gone is another story - this is the world of comics. Even the characters listed here with a low chance of revival are still probably coming back because that's how comic book mythology works.

Vote up the characters you think are most likely to go by the end of Avengers: Endgame.

  • Why He Might Be Doomed: He's lovable, he's been around since the beginning (sure he was Terrence Howard for a second, but still), and his demise would cause turmoil in the ranks. And ending after paralyzing him would be a knife in the wound (though, his inevitable post-paralysis comeback makes that less likely).

When Will He Bite the Dust: Avengers: Endgame.

Odds He Will Return: Low. He's a fantastic actor and a fantastic character, but the only logical reason to bring him back is to take up the Iron Man mantle, and as long as Robert Downey Jr.'s still showing up, that doesn't seem too likely.

  • Why She Might Be Doomed: Of all Thor's compatriots, Lady Sif has the highest profile and her loss would be the most impactful, especially since the Warriors Three were knocked off so unceremoniously in Thor: Ragnarok. Plus, Jaime Alexander, who plays Sif, has her own popular TV show.

When Will She Bite the Dust: Avengers: Endgame.

Odds She Will Return: Low to medium. Aside from Loki, Asgardians haven't been too involved in non-Thor films, so if Sif does indeed go, she'll probably stay gone.

  • Why He Might Be Doomed:  At first he was oh-so-disposable, but then he basically stole Avengers: Age of Ultron. After all his stuff at the ranch, his Scarlet Witch "You walk out that door an Avenger" speech, and all of the fun Hawkeye/Quicksilver stuff, audiences actually care about Hawkeye now. That's why it'd be so effective if he went.

When Will He Bite the Dust: Avengers: Infinity War.

Odds He Will Return: Like Black Widow, he's just a person, not a god or any sort of augmented being. If he bites it (unless they use the Infinity Gauntlet to bring him back) he's likely to stay gone.

  • Why She Might Be Doomed: Mostly because of her powers. She's a very tricky character to write/utilize. How do you quantify or keep continuity on a power set like magic and probability? Her powers are so ill-defined she could hypothetically solve any problem and save the day, making her a potential narrative liability.

When Will She Bite the Dust: Avengers: Endgame.

Odds She Will Return: High. She's a being based on miracles and magic. Plus, the aforementioned Dr. Strange-esque tone; they don't really have a lot of shared comic time, but that might change in the cinematic universe.
