The 2018 film Mary Queen of Scots tells the complicated story of the famous Scottish ruler as she squares off against her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. Though most commonly known as a royal who was executed by her family members, Mary I of Scotland lived a much more complicated existence, one largely colored by the looming shadow of her cousin Elizabeth.
Of course, photographs didn't exist at the time, which can make it tricky to compare Mary Queen of Scots actors to the real-life people they portray. However, the two lady leaders did, in fact, exchange portraits as part of their famous correspondence - so those historical relics can help jumpstart this comparison quest.
As is the case with many films featuring historical figures, Mary Queen of Scots takes some liberties when it comes to casting. While Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie look relatively similar to Mary and Elizabeth, respectively, other actors appear quite different (looking at you, Jack Lowden). Vote up the actors who most accurately portray their historical counterparts.
