List RulesVote up the characters who should have a bigger role in the MCU.

While most of the Avengers are household names, when it comes to Marvel comics vs MCU characters, the movies don't always give minor MCU characters the credit they deserve. With decades of back issues to draw from, even the smallest background characters in S.H.I.E.L.D. or Knowhere can have a rich backstory that the movies just don't have time to flesh out.

Characters like the Warriors Three and Dum Dum Dugan have been around since the 1960s and have appeared in hundreds and hundreds of Marvel comic books over the course of many years, but you wouldn't know it from their roles in the MCU. Others, like Cosmo the Space Dog, are newer but still have more interesting comic book counterparts. So go ahead and scroll on down to see the minor MCU characters who have bigger backstories in the comic books.

    Dum Dum Dugan

Who Is He In The MCU: He mainly features as a member of Steve Rogers's squad in Captain America: The First Avenger, but he also appeared in episodes of Agent Carter and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

What Does He Do In The Comics: Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan has been a Marvel mainstay for over half a century. His body was replaced at one point by a Life Model Decoy and, as a result, he can essentially live forever as his consciousness can just be moved into a new robot body when his old one expires. Dugan has shown up in more than 600 Marvel comics supporting heroes like Nick Fury, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Avengers.

  • Thunderbolt Ross

Who Is He In The MCU: While he's a high-up member of the military in the MCU, General Ross serves as the main antagonist to Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk and the face of registration in Captain America: Civil War.

What Does He Do In The Comics: Spiritually, the movie version of Thunderbolt Ross is pretty faithful to his comic book counterpart, but it only scratches the surface of his brushes with superpowers. The Thunderbolt Ross of the comic books eventually becomes the Red Hulk and that is something we'd very much like to see in the MCU. Give us some Hulk-versus-Hulk fights already!

    Cassie Lang

Who Is She In The MCU: Up until now, Cassie has been the emotional center of Scott Lang's journey in the MCU. But with her being aged up by the time jump in Avengers: Endgame, who knows what lies in her future?

What Does She Do In The Comics: The Cassie Lang of Marvel Comics has gone by many superhero monikers since joining the Young Avengers: Stature, Ant-Girl, Titan, Stinger, etc. This was after she followed in her father's footsteps after he appeared to meet his end in Avengers: Disassembled. Here's to hoping we get to see the Cassie of the MCU become a hero like her dad.

    The Warriors Three

Who Are They In The MCU: The Warriors Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have little to do in the Thor trilogy outside of giving some inconsequential comic relief before being unceremoniously wiped out by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok.

What Do They Do In The Comics: Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg have been around in Thor comic books since the very beginning and have been appeared in hundreds and hundreds of Marvel comics over the years. Volstagg is perhaps the most important of the three, having even become the vindictive and vicious War Thor in Mighty Thor #20.
