Bhumibol Adulyadej is the King of Thailand. He is also known as Rama IX, as he is the ninth monarch of the Chakri Dynasty. Having reigned since 9 June 1946, he is the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history, serving for 68 years, 310 days. King Bhumibol is respected and revered by most Thais. In 1957, the overthrow of his then government was justified with allegations of lèse majesté, which is offence against the dignity of the monarch, punishable under Thai law. Prince Chatrichalerm Yukol, or usually known by his nickname Mui, is a Thai film director, screenwriter and film producer. A prolific director since the 1970s, among his films is the 2001 historical epic, The Legend of Suriyothai. A member of the Thai royal family, his official royal title is Mom Chao, or M.C., the most junior title still considered royalty. For Suriyothai as well as his 2007 historical epic, King Naresuan, Chatrichalerm was backed by Queen Sirikit. Four of his films have been submitted by Thailand for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film: The Elephant Keeper, Song for Chao Phya, Daughter 2 and King of Fire. Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, or full name Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, is a princess of Thailand and the eldest child of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Consort Sirikit. She relinquished her royal title and settled in the United States with her husband, Peter Ladd Jensen, but returned to Thailand after divorcing in 1998. Since her return to Thailand, she has increasingly taken part in royal ceremonies, though not to the extent of her royal siblings.
