Of course, it's only an optical illusion, but people who believe in astrology think that when Mercury is in retrograde, things go haywire. This list is full of crazy things that happened when Mercury was in retrograde.
Of course, the events on this list were probably not caused by Mercury being in retrograde, as there are far more catastrophic events that have taken place when Mercury was going forward like it's supposed to. Nonetheless, all of these disasters fall within the Mercury retrograde time period.
George Zimmerman Was Acquitted
On July 13, 2013, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder for Trayvon Martin's death. Mercury was in retrograde from June 26th to July 20th.
First Ebola Death in the United States
On October 8, 2014, Thomas Eric Duncan became the first person to die of ebola in the United States. Mercury was in retrograde from October 4th to October 24th.
A Mass Shooting at Umpqua Community College
On October 1, 2015, Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer killed nine people and injured nine others in a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Mercury was in retrograde from September 17th to October 9th. Herper-Mercer killed himself after exchanging fire with police.
The BP Oil Spill Began
On April 20, 2010, an explosion on BP's oil rig the Deepwater Horizon killed 11 workers and began the worst oil spill in history. Over the next several months, 4.9 million barrels of crude oil would spill into the Gulf of Mexico. Mercury was in retrograde from April 17th to May 11th.
