Major Missing Characters That Could Still Return To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

List Rules
Vote up the characters that would have a big impact if they showed back up in the MCU.

Even after the tragic demises of beloved characters in AvengersInfinity War and AvengersEndgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of characters. The current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is stuffed with more super-powered individuals than you can shake a stick at. Yet, there is still a lengthy list of MIA characters that seem to have disappeared from the franchise altogether.

Obviously, it’s impossible to give attention to each and every character in the MCU; there will be characters that will be inevitably ignored. However, fans of the genre know that not all who wander are lost. Even those few individuals who have not been glimpsed since the earliest days of the franchise could theoretically pop up again at anytime. All it takes is for a filmmaker to take an interest in them.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to ramp up production throughout Phases 4 and 5, there’s no time like the present for some of these characters to make a comeback.

    Last Seen: Doctor Strange (2016)

Where He's Been: Mordo made a dramatic appearance in one of Doctor Strange’s post-credits scenes - stripping the magic right out of Jonathan Pangborn, leaving him crippled, and declaring that there were “too many sorcerers.” Since then, he’s presumably been working on rectifying that issue, but given the massive amount of sorcerers that showed up for AvengersEndgame’s final battle, he hasn’t been successful.

What Next?: Mordo seems like a sure bet to reappear in future Doctor Strange installments as a possible antagonist, in keeping with his comic book role, and will probably align himself with the next “big bad.” When he does, he’ll be a threat that can truly match Strange’s prodigious mystical talents, and their brawls are sure to be visual feasts.

Last Seen: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2015)

Where She's Been: Sif popped up for a couple cameo appearances in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., apprehending an Asgardian villainess known as Lorelai. She missed out completely on the events of Ragnarok, but is confirmed to have been a victim of Thanos’s snap all the same.

What Next?: Lady Sif seems like a good bet to pop up in Thor: Love and Thunder to form a girl gang alongside Jane Foster’s new God of Thunder and Valkyrie, King of New Asgard. Actor Jaimie Alexander has even expressed some interest in having Sif becoming Valkyrie’s queen.

Last Seen: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Where He's Been: Dr. Erik Selvig proved invaluable to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes through their first two major adventures, and has reportedly been working with the Avengers at their New Avengers Facility ever since - he just hasn’t been seen on screen, other than to be reported as a victim of the Snap. Selvig is still one of the greatest scientific minds in the MCU, so who knows what important research he’s been busying himself with?

What Next?: With Jane Foster returning to the franchise in Thor: Love and Thunder, perhaps her old research partner will rejoin her. That film may involve interactions with other dimensions rather than other realms, and Selvig could very well be the key to cracking that code.

Last Seen: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) (Also appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, 2018, as an illusion)

Where He's Been: Gamora and the Guardians bore witness to Thanos’s beating of Taneleer Tivan on Knowhere - but that was only an illusion. The truth of how the Mad Titan obtained the Reality Stone from the Collector might never be known, but it’s entirely possible that Tivan survived the encounter despite the destruction.

What Next?: If the Collector shows up anywhere again, it will probably be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - perhaps in possession of some vital information about Gamora’s whereabouts. He could also team up with the Grandmaster of Sakaar, his fellow Elder of the Universe, for some hilarious hijinks.
