Mental health is one of the hardest medical issues to deal with, especially when you’re a celebrity. Since quitting The O.C. back in the halcyon days of the 2000s, people have called Mischa Barton crazy. She’s been arrested, she started speaking in an English accent for some reason, and there’s even Mischa Barton breakdown footage out there on the Internet.
But rather than laughing at her misfortune, everyone should be asking, “Is Mischa Barton okay?” Not only has she faced a multitude of career setbacks since leaving her hit Fox drama, but she’s had to deal with suing her mom, and pretty much every other cliché thing that a celebrity has to deal with when they become famous at an early age. If you’re as worried about Mischa Barton now as you should be, you need to keep reading to find out how she’s doing.
After getting voted off Dancing With The Stars, Mischa Barton has plenty of time to herself to relax and not take her post-O.C. life so seriously. As you try to decide on how your favorite mid-2000s Fox star is doing ask yourself “Was Mischa Barton arrested?”
Because it feels like something that probably happened, but it's more appropriate ask yourself, “Is Mischa Barton okay?” For some reason, she’s had a tough go of things since she stepped into the limelight. Hopefully, life will turn around and she’ll be back on top. Or maybe we can all find a time machine and just go back to the mid-2000s, because that also sounds fine.
She's Was Blackmailed With A Sex Tape
When speaking to multiple outlets (Dr. Phil, People, etc.) Barton alleged that she didn't know she was being filmed while having sex, and that the guy who made the secret tape wants to release the film to hurt her feelings, not to make money. And if Barton is to be believed, the way she found out about the tape is super weird.
“Somebody came up to me on the street and said, ‘There’s something I need to tell you,’ and I didn’t believe it at first, I couldn’t believe it. Because I had loved this person and I didn’t think it was possible. And I later learned it was entirely possible.” Ugh. What a bad day in Bartonville. “It was a crime. It is a serious crime to tape people without their knowledge like that and I had made the mistake of putting myself in the situation with the person so I just removed myself as quickly as I could, and then it just continued to be complete emotional abuse after that for the last several, several months.”
Mischa Started Out 2017 In A Mental Institution
What you were you up to in January 2017? After spending an afternoon hanging over her fence and talking about how her mom is a witch, David Bowie, and the world shattering, Barton was “voluntarily transported to a hospital for mental evaluation.” This wasn't the first instance she spent time in a mental facility, but hopefully it's her last. And, to be fair, January is a tough month for everyone.
She Had A Full Mental Breakdown In 2009
A few years after leaving The O.C. Barton was put on a full 5150 psychiatric hold in 2009, thanks to what she describes as a "full-on breakdown."
"It was terrifying, straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life." She explained the mental break to People Magazine and tried to make it sound not so bad, "I was never suicidal. I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation... I accepted [that my hospitalization] was time I needed to be away from work, my family, and all the pressure. I had been through the wringer.”
Someone May Have Drugged Her On Her Birthday
While celebrating her 31st birthday, someone might have slipped GHB, a general anesthetic commonly used as a date rape drug, into one of Barton's drinks. Barton told People Magazine, "I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realized that something was not right as my behavior was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours. I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB."
First of all, yikes. There's nothing remotely funny about someone being drugged while they're out with their friends (or literally anywhere), but the fact that Barton is the target of this kind of thing just adds another layer to the nightmare that seems to be her life. Ugh. Sorry, Mischa.
