The Most Disappointing Movies of 2018

It's always a bummer when a long anticipated movie turns out to be a flop and some of the most disappointing films of 2018 left audiences angry. There are a variety of reasons a movie may disappoint. Adaptations of beloved books may fail to stay loyal to their source material. Reboots of cinematic classics may not have the same stamina as their predecessors. And, sometimes, a movie has a great cast and director, but simply falls flat with audiences.

This year, there were plenty of films that failed to live up to expectations. A Wrinkle in Time, despite the aid of two talented female directors, got lukewarm reviews and disappointed avid fans of the book. While Jennifer Lawrence's performance was praised in Red Sparrow, the adaptation of James Matthews's spy novel was criticized for being gratuitously violent while lacking emotional depth. Many fans of the popular video game franchise of the same name found Tomb Raider to be far too long with a tedious plot. These, and other films, were some of the biggest movie letdowns of 2018.
