Perhaps the biggest snub of the 2014 Oscars is none other than Tom Hanks. If he didn't receive a Best Actor nomination for "Captain Phillips" then surely a Best Supporting Actor nomination for "Saving Mr. Banks" was in order, right? Wrong! Along with co-star Emma Thompson, who easily deserved a Best Actress nomination, Hanks and "Banks" were both snubbed.
But that's just the beginning, with other favorites missing out on nominations as well. Spike Jonze, Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson made "Her" something magical, but outside of Best Picture, all received snubs. "Inside Llewyn Davis" was another notable snub with Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac absent from the nominations. Heck, even some of the technical categories had interesting selections. "The Hunger Games" Catching Fire" had some amazing wardrobe, yet didn't earn a nom for Best Costume Design. So while most times the Academy gets it right, in these cases, they certainly left a lot on the table to ponder.
