Horror Marathon, Anyone?Let's look closely at the all spooky scary franchises, sequels, prequels, reboots, remakes, and etc. we're watching in the dark with no lights on.
Whether it's John Kramer, Detective Hoffman, or one of the other elusive assistants to Jigsaw, these are the worst death scenes in Saw - which means they're the best of the over 70 ends shown throughout the franchise.
The "Rack Trap" is one of the most painful-looking traps in the Saw franchise. It slowly rotates each limb, snapping the bone and twisting the muscles. There is no instant demise from the rack trap, with the man who accidentally killed the game player's son in a drunk driving incident having each limb twisted and snapped individually. Finally, and in horrifying pain, the victim's neck is snapped.
Saw III is full of unwinnable games with victims in horrifying traps in a vengeful plot enacted by one of Jigsaw's apprentices, Amanda Young. Viewers had gotten to know Detective Allison Kerry over the course of the first two movies, so it's a bit surprising and upsetting to see her placed in her own game - especially one so nasty.
Kerry is told that the key to her freedom is in the glass of acid in front of her, so not only is the game rigged, it's constructed to cause her the most pain possible. Her ultimate failure to free herself ends with the "Rib Spreader" cracking her wide open.
Saw VII follows Bobby Dagen as he attempts to win game after game set up for him by Detective Hoffman - one of Jigsaw's apprentices. Dagen had lied about surviving a Jigsaw game and was making money from the infamy. In one of the most savage traps in the movie, Dagen is forced to actually play the game he lied about surviving in order to save his wife, Joyce.
Joyce is chained to a platform while Dagen is presented with metal hooks attached to chains that he must insert into his chest muscles. He then has to use the chains to hoist himself into the air and connect two plugs to stop the oven from forming - and Joyce will be enclosed in an oven and incinerated if Dagen fails. He does, of course.
The "Garage Trap" is full of moments for viewers to wince and look away, as it involves Evan being shirtless and glued to the seat of a car. Evan is told that he has to lean forward, ripping the skin from his back, to pull a lever to stop the car from crushing Kara underneath, ripping body parts connected to the car from Dan's body, smashing through the garage door that has Jake chained to it, and ejecting Evan in a crash with another car in the junkyard where the game takes place.
The "Reverse Bear Trap" mask appears in three different Saw movies, but it isn't until the third appearance in Saw VII that fans finally get to see it work. John Kramer's widow, Jill Tuck, sees Jigsaw-apprentice Detective Hoffman survive his turn in the trap - just as another apprentice (Amanda Young) survived it in the first movie. Unfortunately for Tuck, the game is rigged and when the timer runs out, her face is ripped apart.
Jigsaw-apprentice Young constructs another unwinnable game for poor Troy in Saw III. The trap itself is invasive and painful enough on its own, involving metal rings hooked into Troy's body and attached to chains that he has to remove from himself before a nail bomb goes off.
In the end, he's only able to rip 10 of 11 rings from his body in the time given.
