Maybe it's because they're so reliable, but loyal anime characters don't always get the appreciation that they deserve. Let's spread some love to some of the most loyal anime characters out there.

Loyalty can drive some anime characters to make major personal sacrifices. Akemi Homura of Puella Magi Madoka Magica has traveled through time over 100 times to save her best friend Madoka's life, at significant risk to herself. Tanjiro Kamado of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is so devoted to his sister that he dedicates his life to transforming her back from demon to human - even though her demon form isn't always controllable. These characters are willing to take major risks, but that's just how much they love their friends. Not every loyal character is putting themselves in immediate danger, however - Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima of Fruits Basket just really love their friend Tohru Honda.

Which devoted anime characters would you want at your side?

Riza Hawkeye works as Roy Mustang's bodyguard, but it's more than just professional obligation that keeps Riza on the job - it's her deep and abiding loyalty toward him. While she's frustrated by having to clear up problems he causes thanks to his irresponsible nature, she also genuinely admires Roy and his ideals, and will do anything in her power to not just protect him, but help him succeed. Because of her unwavering loyalty, which is obvious to Roy, she's able to criticize him and have him take her seriously - a tall order for a hot-headed and arrogant man lik him. Just as she's loyal to him, he feels much the same way about her. Whether or not this is due to any romantic tension is up to interpretation... but that's probably part of it.

Tanjiro Kamado has been through a lot. Specifically, his entire family was wiped out by a demon, except for his sister Nezuko, who has transformed into a demon herself. While some people would have run away screaming or heeded the advice of local demon slayers and taken her out, Tanjiro decides that he's going to do whatever it takes to help Nezuko regain her human form. This is a tall order, especially considering how violent Nezuko is when she's first getting used to being a demon, but that doesn't matter to Tanjiro. She's his sister, and he isn't going to give up on her.
