Video games have long been a means of escaping the real world. By taking control of characters and building up their power, players can achieve things which would otherwise be impossible. Many video game characters have become incredibly powerful beings within their own game universes, but some are far too powerful for their own good.
Sometimes, these characters are simply more powerful than the enemies they face, which can make a game less challenging than it otherwise would be. Whatever your experiences with these video game characters, they may be overpowered to an absurd level.

Though he has never been given an official name, the playable character from the Doom franchise has always been known simply as "Doomguy." Doomguy is tasked with a dreaded mission: single-handedly taking on the forces of hell on Mars. He can run nearly 60 mph without breaking a sweat, drop from most heights without taking much damage, and carry more tools than most can fit in their trucks.
He doesn't need any help defeating the forces of hell; Doomguy can blow the heads off even the most hardened demons with only his bare fists.Too powerful?

Kratos, the literal god of war, has slain so many gods that he almost wiped out the entire Greek pantheon. When he was done with the Greek gods, he popped over into Norse mythology and took out most of the gods in that pantheon, as well.
He has several devastating tools, including the Blades of Chaos, at his disposal. Due to his superhuman speed and strength, there's nothing he can't conquer, be it a mythical monster, a titan, or another god. With so much power at Kratos's disposal, a player can simply button mash their way through most of his games with ease.Too powerful?

If you look at a picture of Kirby and think he's an adorable, harmless little creature, you're only half right. Kirby is the protagonist of numerous games, and in every one of them, he's the most powerful being around. Kirby is immortal and has an infinite amount of power.
Kirby can suck in just about any enemy who gets in his way and add their powers to his own arsenal. He can use his enemy's powers against them, and often does so with greater efficiency. Kirby also has the ability to freeze time and survive in the vacuum of space. There's not much anyone can do to stop him.
He may look like a fluffy pink cutie, but to anyone who stands against him, he's a limitless monster who devours whole races of people.Too powerful?

This one may seem a bit strange if you've never tried multiplayer mode on the old Nintendo 64 game, but picking Oddjob was tantamount to cheating back in the day. The character's short stature ends up being a bonus, making him more OP than even James Bond himself. The problem arises due to the game's auto-aim feature, which naturally points above the character's head.
This means any player who chooses Oddjob has the upper hand, as they are able to fire first in most situations. The gameplay doesn't allow for easy aiming, so it takes an incredibly skilled player to beat Oddjob to the punch in most matches. Even the game's creators agree that Oddjob is overpowered:
We all thought it was kind of cheating when we were play-testing with Oddjob [due to his short stature, the auto-aim of the weapons goes above his head], but it was too much fun to take out and there was no impetus from any of us to change it. It’s clearly become part of the culture and folklore of the game.Too powerful?
