Although sex trends seem to change every week, there are some that are here to stay. If you're on the more vanilla side of things, you'll probably to be surprised to hear about these weird sexual fetishes which are, basically, what most of us would consider painful. You may be familiar with the light bondage you've seen in 50 Shades Of Grey, but that's nothing on these painful sexual fetishes.
Tying someone up for a spank may be a little naughty, but it's nowhere near as naughty as cutting your own leg off for pleasure. And, yes, that really happens. Honestly, things get a whole lot more interesting. Human sexuality is a really confusing thing, and sometimes the line between pleasure and pain isn't just blurred, it's erased entirely. Check out these painful sex fetishes, but don't try them at home without doing your research. Some of them require a doctor's supervision.
Not to be confused with acrotomophilia – a general attraction to amputees – apotemnophilia has a more personal edge, and a potentially dangerous one. Apotemnophilia is about being attracted to the idea of yourself as an amputee. While that may sound like a wild fantasy, some people go the extra mile. They've been known to remove their own limbs to make this fantasy a reality. One man (who had his name changed) told The Atlantic, "Well, it was definitely like an obsession. Until I cut my leg off, of course..."
As you can imagine, it’s difficult to get a doctor to perform what many view as a totally gratuitous procedure, and at-home amputations are most likely to be fatal.
It may be really well known, but arousal from giving (or receiving), physical and psychological pain is about as textbook as it gets. This form of pleasure is all about pain, and many folks switch between giving and receiving, though some have strict roles. But when you’re dealing with the nuances of it, you need to have some strong safe words in case things get really dangerous.
It's also really common. What's the draw? Well, one man explained to Cosmopolitan: "I love the intimacy of it. You can run a really intense scene which takes someone across a whole range of emotions from scared to excited to desperately pleading and turned on without removing a single item of clothing or touching any of the usual erogenous areas."
Probably made most famous by Issei Sagawa, who consumed a classmate in France and then walked free, this phenomenon is an arousal to eating another person’s body parts. Though it’s obviously a lot more painful (and straight-up fatal) for the victim, the violent nature of the fetish and considerable jail time involved earns it a place on the list.
Not everyone will be as "lucky" as Sagawa, of course, and will probably wind up behind bars.
Zoophilia is another fetish you may be familiar with: arousal to non-human animals. You may think of it in terms of "beastility." Reddit user Heleria explained that, for her at least, it’s a physical and emotional attraction: "I absolutely love dogs. The emotional attraction is more important to me than the physical. Not to the level of them feeling as boyfriends, though.”
But, let’s be honest, a lot of animals are a lot bigger than humans. It’s not hard to see how pursuing a horse or an elephant could go very wrong and wind up very painfully. In fact, Kenneth Pinyan reportedly was felled from injuries related to getting it on with a stallion.
