The 20 Most Powerful Swordsmen In 'One Piece,' Ranked

List Rules
Vote up the series' strongest sword fighters.

One Piece is best known for the creative and unique Devil Fruit powers that many of the characters possess, but that's far from the only way that the characters can fight. Swordsmanship is just one of the many impressive methods that the characters use to defeat their opponents.

Let's rank some of the strongest swordsmen in One Piece, from legendary fighters like Dracule Mihawk to newbies who became amazing like Roronoa Zoro. Characters like Kuzan and Kizaru will not be included - while they're incredible, too, their swords are generated by their Devil Fruits, so the comparison is a little hard to make. The characters here are using cold, hard steel.

As the legendary Pirate King, Gol D. Roger is one of the strongest people in the One Piece universe. Because he only appears in flashbacks, we only know a little about his abilities.

He was able to defeat the expert samurai Kozuki Oden with a single strike. When he was fighting Whitebeard, he could clash with Whitebeard's naginata on equal footing, and even created a shockwave strong enough to displace Whitebeard's ship - not to mention everything else on the island. His strength was dramatically enhanced by the use of Busoshoku Haki.

It's not for nothing that Dracule Mihawk is called the Strongest Swordsman in the World - he's more than earned the title. When he first shows up, he shows off by wiping the floor with Zoro using only a tiny dagger. This is already impressive enough, but he soon proves that he can do much more. He specializes in the Gentle Blade style, and is best known for using a large, black sword called Yoru.

Among his feats are cutting through steel, cutting an iceberg in half, and destroying multiple ships with his sword alone. He uses Busoshoku Haki to enhance his technique and protect his swords from damage, a skill that he passed along to Zoro while he was training him.

Shanks is one of the Four Emperors, which means he's recognized as one of the four strongest pirates in the world. Because he's so rarely seen in fights, not much is known about his specific techniques. But he was Dracule Mihawk's rival, which implies that he must have been an amazing swordsman.

What's more, he was able to stand up to Akainu's magma fist with just his sword and his Busoshoku Haki, and he was on equal footing with Whitebeard despite having just one arm.

    Silvers Rayleigh

Silvers Rayleigh was the first mate of the Roger Pirates, so you can already guess that he's terrifyingly strong. Though he claims not to be as handy with a sword as he was in his younger days, he can still cross blades with even powerful opponents like Kizaru. He was even able to cut Kizaru's face despite the fact that the man can transform his body into light - that just shows how fast Silvers is.

He fights using either a double-edged straight sword or a katana to create compressed air slashes, and boosts their power using Busoshoku Haki. He not only mastered Busoshoku Haki himself, but was also able to successfully teach it to Luffy.

Roronoa Zoro has wanted to be the world's greatest swordsman ever since he was a child. When he isn't getting lost or bickering with Sanji, that's what he's putting all his effort into. He initially trained at the Isshin Dojo, but eventually caught Dracule Mihawk's interest and trained under him. While he uses a wide range of styles, his signature is the three-sword style, which requires him to fight with a sword in his mouth. Through training, he was eventually able to cut through steel, an ability which progressed to him being able to slice through a whole building with a small tanto blade. He can use Busoshoku Haki to bump up his power, and he can even use cursed swords that most others wouldn't dare touch.

He's also incredibly perceptive. During the Raid on Onigashima, he copied the Kitsunebi-ryu style of fighting by observation alone. His inability to follow directions does not apply when it comes to swordfighting.

Kozuki Oden was the daimyo of Kuri in Wano Country, and he was also a member of both the Whitebeard and Roger Pirates. He's recognized as one of the most powerful swordsmen in history. He uses Oden Two-Sword Style, and wields two legendary swords, Enma and Ame no Habakiri.

At the young age of 9, he was able to fight off multiple yakuza, and his strength only grew from there. Later feats included slicing a ship in half, successfully fighting a felon with the strength of 100 men, and wounding Kaido, who is said to be nearly invincible. In fact, he's pretty much the only person whose strength Kaido acknowledges.
