Comic books have always had the bad rap of being just some idle thing for children. In reality, many of them are anything but. Guys like Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Robert Kirkman, and Frank Miller made sure the comic books they worked on were strictly for adult audiences. Even the friendliest of superhero books have more than a few dark and shocking moments.
Be it a surprise death, the way a moment is handled, learning about someone's past, an unmasking, or a sudden revelation that will make the book, and the audience, never quite the same again, comic books offer just as many shocks and twists as any other work of fiction.
