While working on the concept for the creature in Alien (1979), Dan O'Bannon suggested to Ridley Scott he hire H. R. Giger, a Swiss surrealist, after showing to Scott a copy of Giger's book Necronomicon,they chose "Necronom IV" from 1976 as the basis of the Alien's design.
The chestburster scene in Alien (1979) only had a handful of takes because the animal organs used in the scene started cooking under the set lighting, creating a revolting stench on set.
