Vote up the movies that Hollywood should never consider remaking.
We're in an era where a number of famous movies are being remade or turned into TV mini-series. Fans on Reddit have begun discussing which films Hollywood should never try to remake or which popular movies just wouldn't work because they were a product of their time.
Not only is the casting absolutely iconic, but the trilogy is fundamentally tied to the decade it was made in. The 1955 is not the real 1955, but the nostalgic view its generation had of it in 1985, while 2015 also can only exist in that context.
What would it even look like today? Traveling from 2025 back into 1995? And almost every future we have in media right now is some shade of grimdark and pessimistic, you can't just do pure camp the way BTTF treated 2015.
I feel like it’s one of those things where Tarantino has such a distinct style that any remake not by another director with another totally distinct style would just flop. Because otherwise it’ll either just be a carbon copy or a generic downgrade.
A remake would have to be the same plot and characters but totally a different feel and style to bring anything new to it.
I came here to say The Blues Brothers. Jake and Elwood ARE John and Dan and their friendship and their soul brother connection. It wouldn’t work with anyone else plus you can’t replace the band itself seeing as they were highly talented and legendary blues musicians that played with the greats like Otis Redding and Muddy Waters. Plus the supporting cast of legends like Aretha, Cab, James Brown, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, etc.
