The cost of fame can be high, and these musicians paid with their lives. It's always gut-wrenching to hear that a musician has been murdered, especially since you know they had so much more music to give the world. Several famous rock stars, rappers and singers have been murdered. Some of these musicians were killed by strangers, while others were murdered by people that they knew. Some of these murders are still unsolved to this day.

Who is the most famous musician who was murdered? John Lennon tops our list. The former Beatle died on December 8, 1980, at age 40, after being shot by Mark David Chapman. Earlier that day, Chapman had asked Lennon for his autograph. Selena died on March 31, 1995, at age 23, after being shot by her fan club president Yolanda Saldíva. Selena had recently discovered that Saldiva had been stealing from the fan club.

Dimebag Darrell died on December 8, 2004, at age 38, after being shot, while performing, by Nathan Gale. Several other people died during this shooting rampage. Mia Zapata died on July 7, 1993, at age 27, after being raped, beaten and strangled by an unknown assailant. Lenny Breau died on August 12, 1984, at age 43, after being strangled. He was found in his swimming pool and the case remains unsolved.
