He Crashed His Own Party To Read An Edgar Allan Poe Poem
Every year on Cage's birthday (January 7), the Alamo Draft House in Austin, TX, holds a birthday party of sorts where they play a marathon of his films. The movie lineup is always a secret; the whole thing is simply a ploy to compel Cage to come to the party.
He didn't show up until the fourth event, in 2017, when he made an unforgettable appearance. Cage took the stage to read "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe, which was arguably one of his best performances.

He's Kinda Glad He Missed Out On 'The Lord of the Rings' - Because Now He Can Enjoy Them Like A Fan
The cast of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings is untouchable. It's impossible to imagine anyone other than Viggo Mortensen playing Aragorn, the true king of men. However, at one point, Cage was in the running for the role.
Cage explained he didn't take the role because his life was too busy - he didn't want to leave home for three years to film. Instead, he just wanted to watch the movies as a fan.
"But the thing is about those movies, I can watch them. I can enjoy them as an audience member. I don't really watch my own movies. And so I genuinely do have the joy of watching these - especially with Lord of the Rings," he told Newsweek.
In 2014, Idris Elba told a fantastic Cage story during a Reddit AMA. Someone had asked him what it was like to work with Cage on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in Transylvania, Romania.
According to Elba, Cage showed up on set looking exhausted and spooked-out. When Elba asked him what his deal was, Cage explained he was staying in Dracula's castle: "I just had to channel the energy, and it was pretty spooky up there."
In an illuminating interview with the Daily Mail, Cage exposed some of the most interesting facts about himself. Each answer seemed nerdier than the next. When asked who he would like to have as an ideal dinner date, his response was classic Cage:
My ideal dinner party would involve Bruce Lee, John Lennon, and Miles Davis. I'm pretty sure the conversation would be stimulating. Also, as they've all passed on, there would be a supernatural aspect to the whole thing.

He Learned How To Read From Comic Books
Cage is a comic book aficionado, but he's not a run-of-the-mill comic bro who started collecting when he got some cash. It turns out comics mean more to Cage than anyone might have imagined, and they're kind of responsible for his entire career.
What's interesting about [comic book movies] is that people have attached words to me like "comic book geek" or "comic book nerd" or this, that, or the other, but the truth of the matter is that I'm loyal to my childhood.
I grew up reading comic books - they're how I learned to read - and they stimulated my imagination... in a shamanic way, even, and I had no doubt that when the time came, with the technology [required], that those comic books would translate into some of the greatest entertainment the world has ever seen, and lo and behold, it's a multi-billion-dollar industry, so how big of a nerd can I be?

He Had A Huge Comic Book Collection (Which He Sold For $1.6 Million)
After he announced his impending marriage to Lisa Marie Presley in 2002, Cage put his entire comic book collection up for auction. The sale of his 400 Golden Age comics took place at the Dallas Comic-Con that year, netting the actor a king's ransom.
He sold an issue of Action Comics #1 for $86,250, which was $15,000 more than its worth at the time, as well as a copy of Detective Comics #38 for close to $132,250. The entire auction made $1.6 million.
