It may not be common for people to experience a solar eclipse at full totality without having to travel, but folklore about eclipses does indicate that these events have always been closely observed and either celebrated or feared. Whether it was a total or partial eclipse, both solar and lunar eclipses grabbed the attention of people all over the world whenever they occurred.

Throughout history, people have documented an increase in paranormal activity during eclipses. From the South Carolina Lizard Man to ancient rituals based around these lunar and solar eclipses, there is intriguing history that showcases humankind's continual fascination with what happens in the sky. Be sure to keep an eye out for any signs of odd, supernatural, and paranormal activities during the next big solar and lunar eclipses.

Internet pastor Paul Begley believes the Blood Moon eclipse on July 27, 2018, is a sign of the impending apocalypse. The religious alarmist took to YouTube to warn his followers about the Earth's imminent and fiery end with his video, "Prophecy Alert: The Blood Moon Is Rising."

In the video, Begley claims God "spoke to him" and told him to "go check out the Blood Moon" back in June 2018. He says he discovered the Blood Moon is "happening over Jerusalem," which to Begley is a clear indicator the Four Horsemen are rearing to start the End of Days.

"So you can't debunk what I'm saying. You can't. Everything I'm saying is actual factual."

Begley is hardly the only conspiracy theorist to predict the end of the world based on the Moon. Mark Blitz and John Hagee were the voices behind the Blood Moon Tetrad conspiracy of 2014.

In reality, a totally eclipsed Moon looks red because the Sun's light passes through the Earth's atmosphere. The green to violet segment of the light spectrum is filtered out through the atmosphere, leaving only a red haze to paint the lunar landscape.

The Inuit people have one of the most disturbing legends about solar eclipses. It is their belief that the Moon God, Anningan, had an interest in inbreeding with his sister, the Sun Goddess, Malina. This led to Anningan raping Malina, which understandably caused Malina to hate her brother. Whenever a solar eclipse occurs, this means that Anningan has caught up to Malina and raped her again. Any man who leaves home during an eclipse will develop a serious disease as a result of Malina's anger.

Paranormal investigators are reportedly on high alert whenever an eclipse is about to occur. According to investigator Dennis Carroll, this is due to the strong increase in paranormal activity. Carroll warns that anyone living in the path of totality should be especially careful because eclipses impact electromagnetic lines. As a consequence of this, the number of ghost sightings dramatically increases, meaning that spirit activity also increases. Carroll claims people should be more careful as the number of injuries goes up with heightened spirit activity, such as objects moving and doors slamming.

It might seem like something out of a horror movie, but the government of South Carolina actually issued a warning about Lizard Man during the 2017 eclipse. Shockingly, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division was behind the warning, which means it wasn't just a hoax. Residents were truly told to keep an eye out for Lizard Man during the time of the 2017 eclipse.

This local reptilian man has roamed about South Carolina since at least the '80s. However, physical evidence is lacking, so it's hard to determine if there's only one Lizard Man or an entire race of Lizard People. Perhaps Spider-Man's friend, Dr. Connors, messed up again while trying to regrow his arm.
