The Oldest People Who Ever Lived

People are living well into their 100s in the United States and all over the world. Nine of the 10 oldest people to have ever lived are women. Four of the oldest people ever are from the United States, three are from Japan, and one is from France. The oldest person who ever lived was over 120 years old when she died.

Who is the person who lived the longest? Jeanne Calment of France lived from February 21, 1875 until August 4, 1997 for a total of 122 years and 164 days. She even met Vincent Van Gogh when she was 12 or 13 years old. In 1995, a documentary was made about her life entitled Beyond 120 Years with Jeanne Calment. She smoked from the time she was 21 until she reached age 117.

Jiroemon Kimura of Japan is the man who lived the longest. He lived from April 19, 1897 until June 12, 2013 for a total of 116 years and 54 days. Four of his five siblings lived to be older than 90 years old. He received a video message from Shinzō Abe, Japan's Prime Minister, on his 116th birthday.
