P.E., or Physical Education, was either the highlight of the day, or the hour you dread the most in school. P.E. classes exist to keep students active and make sure they don't spend all their time sitting in desks, away from the sun, and listening to lectures. Since school can often by exhausting, the period in which kids are required to exercise and play games generally serves to provide energy and excitement.
Some kids remember running miles and doing pushups for the entire hour that they were in P.E., but others recall the fun games they'd play like flag football or four square. The more competitive students likely look back fondly on their P.E. classes and maybe even miss participating in the epic dodgeball tournaments. Rainy days in particular could ensure than students would be running around a court trying to out-strategize the opposition. Whether you loved it or couldn't wait for the activity to end, it's likely you recall a few of the best P.E. activities from school.
Players stand in a circle around the rainbow colored parachute and lift it high into the air as one person runs to the opposite end of the circle before the chute hits the ground.
Kickball is similar to a traditional baseball game only it's played with a rubber kickball and players use their feet instead of a bat.
Players attempt to knock down ten plastic pins by rolling a plastic ball down a designated lane. Each player gets two tries to knock down as many pins as they can for several rounds. The player who knocks down the most pins by the end of the game, wins.
Dodgeball players line up on either side of a court and toss rubber balls at players on the opposing team until everyone is eliminated. You are eliminated once you've been hit by a ball.
Scooter boards are a diverse enough object that they can be used for several different games. Typically, players lay front first on the board and use their arms and legs to scoot through the identified course.
Capture The Flag
Capture the flag is set up with two teams, each defending their respective flags. Using strategy and speed, players attempt to steal the opposing team's flag from its post.
To play tag, players run around a designated area in an attempt to escape the person who is "It." If "It" catches you, you become "It" and must chase the remaining players.
Tug Of War
Two teams take hold of opposite ends of a long rope. In a test of strength, players on each team tug the rope in their general direction. The team that can pull the opposition over the central line first, wins.
Red rover players stand in two separate lines across from each other, linked together by hand holding. One team sings, "Red rover, red rover send ____ over," and the player who was named would attempt to run through two players locked hands, breaking them apart.
Players run around a circle of chairs for as long as the monitor plays music. They are required to find a seat as soon as the music stops. The catch is that there is always one less chair than their are players, and the player who doesn't find a seat fast enough is eliminated until there is a single chair remaining.
A monitor sets up a course of various obstacles that require barrel crawling, jumping, and other similar tasks. Players race through the course to see who can finish with the fastest time.
The four square court is made of four squares, and a single player stands in each square. The players pass a rubber ball to each square in an attempt to elimate each other. The last man standing is the winner.
Similarly to traditional football, players attempt to get the ball into the opposing team's endzone with strategy and speed. The difference between flag football and traditional football is that the opposing team attempt to steal flags strapped to a players waist rather than tackle them when they have the ball.
Mother May I?
One player is designated at "Mother" and the remaining players are in a race to see who can reach Mother first. Each players asks Mother what kind of step they can take and Mother says yes or no. The first player to reach Mother, wins.
Knockout players line up in front of a basket and shoot free throws one after the other. If you make the ball into the basket, you return to the back of the line. If you miss, you rebound your own ball and try to get it in before the player behind you makes their shot.
Several teams race against each other in a relay which requires passing a baton or tapping the hand of the next runner on your team once you reach them. The team in which every player completes their portion of the race first wins.
Sharks and Minnows
The player who is chosen as the shark attempts to tag those known as minnows as they run from one end of the designated playing area to the other. Once a minnow is tagged, they too become a shark. The catch is that the shark cannot move from their position, therefore a large group of players is required to make sure the shark has ample bate.
Similarly to a traditional baseball game, Wiffle ball players attempt to run bases before the opposing team can stop them. The main difference between baseball and Wiffle ball is that the plastic Wiffle ball does not travel well, therefore the game is typically played on a smaller field.
Through The Hoop
Through the hoop players hold hands while attempting to send a hula hoop around their circle without breaking a part.
