Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson's engagement has put the pop star and comedian into elite company. From Jackie Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis to Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett, there has never been a shortage of weird celebrity couples that have fascinated - and sometimes confused - the everyday public.
A comprehensive timeline of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson's relationship captures just how quickly their whirlwind romance escalated. The two started dating in the spring of 2018, and weeks later announced another celebrity engagement in a busy year for star-studded love connections. Things moved fast, but when you're young and in love, drawn-out courting rituals are hardly a priority. Who needs to follow tradition when they already have matching tattoos?
September 24, 2018: Davidson Gushes About Grande On 'The Howard Stern Show'
Davidson went on the shock jock's show just ahead of SNL's 44th season premiere, but the comedian spent a majority of his time discussing his relationship with Grande instead of promoting the show. The two covered a lot of ground regarding the young engaged couple's relationship. Davidson recalled pitching sketches to Grande back when she was hosting the show in 2016, saying, "I was just like staring at her."
Davidson credited Grande's manager Scoot Braun as their matchmaker. He said Braun hinted at Grande's interest in him, so the two made plans to hang out after she attended the Met Gala.
"I was f*cking sh*tting my pants," he said, recalling how nervous he felt on the way to their first casual date. Davidson said he asked Grande permission before they shared their first kiss. He knows how lucky he is to be with Grande as well.
"I don't know what it was but I'm just f*cking lucky and I hope I don't wake up," he said of their whirlwind romance.

i love his name and i love him
music lasts forever. it’ll outlive any tattoo, any memory, any anything, even myself so i want my love for him and how i feel to be a part of that
As Davidson's and Grande's romance blossomed, Grande revealed that her new album, Sweetener, features an interlude called "Pete." On July 30, 2018, she decided a first name dedication was not enough and updated the title to "Pete Davidson."
When a fan on Twitter asked her why, she replied, "i like the way it looks i love his name and i love him. music lasts forever. it'll outlive any tattoo, any memory, any anything, even myself so i want my love for him and how i feel to be a part of that."
June 21, 2018: Davidson Talks About Their Engagement To Jimmy Fallon On 'The Tonight Show'
Davidson talked about the engagement for the first time during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He called his relationship with Grande "f*cking lit." He went on to say, "I feel like I won a contest…It's so funny walking down the street, because dudes are walking by, and they're like…'Yo, man, you gave me hope.'"
The Saturday Night Live star also admitted he found it odd that so many people were interested in his private life when so much else is going on in the world. "Why do people care? It's very weird. The president's, like, trying to pardon himself, and he's, like, f*cking [an adult film] star. Shouldn't we care about that?"

Grande had worn the ring while out in public with Davidson before, but the post confirmed the accessory as an engagement ring. The couple seemed head over heels together. "u know what you’d dream it be like?" Davidson captioned the image. "it’s better than that."
