Photos Of Male Same Sex Couples Throughout History

Same sex relationships are nothing new, nor are public displays of affection. What has changed since the early 19th and 20th century is the frequency of couples photo shoots. These days, an evening out together can result in dozens of affectionate shots, therefore defeating the purpose of a professional photographer. Photos of male same sex couples from history, however, often depict partners lovingly seated on the other's lap or standing by their side as if they paid to pose together. 

The amount of heartwarming photos of same sex couples taken prior to the 21st century might surprise you, but gay relationships were far more common and public than some might think. Though there weren't as many gay characters on television or in film, male couples were happy to display their fondness for one another.
