Popular brands usually come with easily-identifiable mascots. It's the image we have in our heads when we hear the company's name in our day-to-day life. The best of these have been around for decades, introducing several generations to a beloved character. But with that longevity comes at least a bit of modernization.
Updating a mascot is a tricky proposition. Go too far and the once-beloved mascot is now patronizing towards the valuable, younger demographic these companies are trying to appease.
