Earthquakes, bloody conflicts, and the steady march of years take their toll on everything - and buildings especially. However, while few buildings last longer than a century, many castles were built to do just that. Not every castle survived the ravages of time, but many have been restored or redeveloped in order to preserve a small piece of history. They also make great tourist destinations.
