It's not often that a person can claim to be the first in history to accomplish something important. There is only one person who conducted the first powered flight, and only one who coordinated the first charity walk. These monumental events have happened throughout the course of history; however, it was only in the 19th century with the advent of photography that the majority of the living population could actually see historical firsts as they took place. Rather than reading an event through text or looking at a reproduced illustration, people we were able to see fascinating photos of historical firsts and feel as if we were experiencing the moment.
Photos of historical firsts provide more than an experiential understanding of events as they took place, they also allow us to see technological advancements and innovations, as well as the ingenuity and curiosity of humanity.
