Unfortunately, many prominent politicians have been assassinated due to political and personal reasons. Several famous presidents, mayors and senators have been murdered. Most of these politicians were killed because of their political stances, but some were murdered because of a beef with someone they knew. One famous politician was killed during an assassination attempt of a president-elect.

Who is the most famous politician who was murdered? John F. Kennedy tops our list. John F. Kennedy died on November 22, 1963, at age 46, after being shot in Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the assassination. His brother Robert F. Kennedy died on June 6, 1968, at age 42, after being shot by Sirhan Sirhan in Los Angeles. Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865, at age 56, after being shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.

Anton Cermak died on March 6, 1933, at age 59, after being shot during an assassination attempt on President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt. Harvey Milk died on November 27, 1978, at age 48, after being shot by supervisor Dan White in San Francisco. George Moscone was also killed in that same attack.
