The best soccer players to retire in 2019 have left a lasting mark on the sport. The average length of a career in professional socce is eight years, and many of these stars had careers that lasted longer than that, playing for both their club teams and national teams over the past two decades.

They range from Dutchman Robin van Persie, who began his career as a star for Arsenal, to Xavi, one of the most accomplished players in Spanish soccer history. Keeper Petr Cech, who was the second-most capped player in the history of the Czech national team, also hung up his cleats during 2019.
