We’re ranking every Captain America in the Marvel comics universe. Along with all Captain America incarnations that appeared in the comic books, this list also includes alternate versions as well as villains who became Captain America. Who is your favorite Captain America?

Everyone knows the original Cap Steve Rogers, but did you know there have been several black Captain Americas and female Captain Americas? Several enemies have even worn the suit and used the Captain America alias, like Red Skull, Pitt'o Nili, and Frank Simpson. Other comic book characters who were Captain America include Cyclops, Winter Soldier, and Punisher.

    Captain America is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. The character wears a costume bearing an American flag motif, and he utilizes a nearly indestructible shield which he throws as a projectile. Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's efforts in World War II. Captain America was the first Marvel Comics character to appear in media outside comics with the release of the 1944 movie serial, Captain America.

    Bucky is the name of several fictional characters that were masked superheroes in the Marvel Comics universe. The original one, James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby as a sidekick character in Captain America Comics #1, published by Timely Comics. Decades later, the original Bucky was brought back from supposed death as the Winter Soldier, and briefly assumed the role of Captain America when Steve Rogers was presumed to be dead. Sebastian Stan portrays Bucky in the feature film Captain America: The First Avenger and the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Stan will reprise the role in the sequel Captain America: Civil War.

    Falcon (Samuel Thomas Wilson) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was introduced by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan in Captain America #117 (September 1969), and was the first African-American superhero in mainstream comic books, as well as the first black superhero not to have the word "black" as part of his superhero name. As the superhero Falcon, Wilson uses mechanical wings to fly, and has limited telepathic and empathic control over birds. Following Steve Rogers's retirement, Wilson becomes the newest Captain America in All-New Captain America #1 (January 2015) and leader of the Avengers. Anthony Mackie portrays Sam Wilson / Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    Jeffrey Solomon "Jeff" Mace, also known as the Patriot and Captain America, is a fictional character, a superhero in the Marvel Comics universe, created during the 1940s period which fans and historians call the Golden Age of Comic Books. As the Patriot, he first appeared in The Human Torch # 4, published by Marvel's 1940s precursor, Timely Comics. In 1976, Marvel revealed via retroactive continuity that Mace had become the third Captain America some time after his World War II era adventures.
