30+ Rappers Who Have Been Shot

This list contains information about rappers who have been shot, loosely ranked by fame and popularity. Several famous rappers from New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit have been shot. Some of these famous hip-hop stars survived their shootings, while others perished as a result. Two of the most famous shootings involving rappers never resulted in anyone being charged.

Who is the most famous rapper who has been shot? Tupac Shakur tops our list. On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. He passed six days later. His slaying remains unsolved to this day. On March 9, 1997, The Notorious B.I.G. was shot in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His slaying also remains unsolved.

Several famous rappers survived being shot. On May 24, 2000, 50 Cent was shot nine times at close range. He spent 13 days in the hospital treating his wounds. When he was 15 years old, Timbaland was accidentally shot by a co-worker. He was left partially immobile for nine months.

    Takeoff passed away on November 1, 2022. The youngest member of rap group, Migos, was found dead outside of a bowling alley in Downtown Houston, he suffered a gunshot wound. He was 28. 

    Takeoff, whose full name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was a part of a rap trio that included his uncle, Quavo, and his cousin, Offset. The rap trio dominated the rap scene and parties around the world with their catchy, party anthems like “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry,” “Motorsport,” “Versace," “T-Shirt,” “Walk It Talk It” and more. They've been releasing music together for 15 years. 

    Takeoff released some solo music as well with successful solo album “The Last Rocket.” He also collaborated with his uncle Quavo on new album “Only Built For Infinity Links” which was released on October 7, 2022. 

    “When you’re around Takeoff, there’s a sense of peacefulness about his aura,” Mr. Findling, a lawyer for Takeoff, said. “He listens to you, he looks at you, he’s more focused on what you have to say than what he has to say. The world was starting to learn about Takeoff. It was his time to shine.”

  • Kodak Black was one of a handful of people shot and injured during a fight outside of The Nice Guy in West Hollywood on February 12, 2022.

    NBC News reported that the rapper (as well as other victims) were taken to a local hospital to be treated for nonthreatening gunshot wounds. 

    Rappers Kodak Black, Gunna, and Lil Baby were standing outside of The Nice Guy, which was hosting an exclusive party after Justin Bieber's pre-Super Bowl performance at the Pacific Design Center. Sources said the group seemed to be smiling and laughing before a fight broke out, then gunshots were heard.

    The LAPD released a statement about the incident that said: "Preliminary investigation revealed there was a physical altercation between several individuals at the location. Gunshots were fired by an unknown suspect, who then fled south from the location. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported two victims to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers discovered there were two additional victims who self-transported to local hospitals, bringing the total shot to four. All four victims are listed in stable condition.”

  • Young Dolph

    Young Dolph died in a shooting in Memphis, Tennessee on November 17, 2021. He was 36.

    “All of us at APA are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of our dear friend and client, Young Dolph. The world has lost an icon, a great man and beloved artist who has been taken too soon. His dedication, drive, hard work, and loyalty to all those around him always came first and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this most difficult time," a representative from APA Agency said in a statement to Variety

    The shooting took place at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies in South Memphis. The store owner said Young Dolph walked in to buy cookies when someone drove up, shot, and killed him around 1 p.m., FOX News 13 reported. He had previously been shot in September 2017, outside of a store in Hollywood.

  • Tray Savage

    On June 19th, E! News reported that rapper Tray Savage had been shot dead in Chicago. He was 26. In the article, they write that "Multiple outlets report that Tray was driving his girlfriend to her house in the area at the time of the shooting." and noted the statement from the Chicago PD that he had been "shot in the neck and shoulder." There were no suspects at the time of the report, and an investigation was being held.

    Savage is known not just for solo ventures but also for being a member of Chief Keef's Glo Gang.
