15 PS1 Games That Are Worth A Crazy Amount Today

Over 100 Ranker voters have come together to rank this list of 15 PS1 Games That Are Worth A Crazy Amount Today

When Sony entered the home video gaming console market in 1994, few could have predicted the PlayStation growing in popularity to eventually overtake the market. After all, the Japanese company was a late entry in the video game wars. Hardware aside, one of the biggest factors in the PS1's dominance in the industry was its insanely expansive gaming library. After all, it was the system that introduced the world to the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, and a litany of others. While the PlayStation had a ton of classic games, most won't fetch a whole lot, but there are a handful of rare PS1 games that are worth a small fortune today.

With so many games released over the years, several rare PlayStation 1 games are considered extremely collectible, as there weren't as many made or sold as Sony would have liked back in the 1990s. These 15 examples are some of the most sought after and valuable PS1 games around, and people are still clamoring to collect them.

As is the case with most collectibles, prices often vary, which is why when confronted with various prices we've opted to list the higher numbers. After all, if those valuable NES games are any indicator, these expensive PS1 games will only increase in value over time. These prices also don't reflect professional-grade copies, which are known to fetch even higher prices.

  • The Misadventures of Tron Bonne is an action-adventure puzzle-platformer released on the PS1 back in 1999. The game was developed by Capcom, and falls within the realm of the Mega Man Legends franchise, making it a prequel and spin-off of the first Legends game in the series.

Loose copies of the game can sell for around $125, and while a complete copy is typically valued at around $310. As one of the rarer PS1 games, listings don't come up often, but when they go they often range in price. While most unopened copies tend to sell for more than $700, a recent opened copy sold in June 2020 for more than $1,000, which just goes to show how much timing plays a role.

The game is highly collectible, and a loose disk without the jewel case can go for as much as $160 on eBay. Of course, collectors want the whole package, so a complete game with the case and booklet can sell for as much as $500 in an online auction.

New, unopened copies are considerably rarer than the open ones, so when they do turn up in an auction, they tend to sell for as much as $835.

  • As the name might imply, Valkyrie Profile is a role-playing game based on Norse Mythology. The first game in the franchise was released in 1999 for the PlayStation, and due to the game's popularity, it received a PlayStation Portable port, which included enhanced graphics in 2006. The most recent title in the franchise, Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin was released in 2019 for Android and iOS.

A loose copy of the game is worth $100, while a complete copy can typically bring in around $265. New copies are hard to find, so when they do show up, people will pay around $460 to get their hands on it. One sold in early June for that amount, and others listed online bring in as much or more in most cases.

  • Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes is the third title in the famous crossover series that pitted the best Marvel and Capcom had to offer against one another. The game was well designed, and while the Sega Dreamcast version received higher praise than the PS1 version, it still stands as one of the best fighting games on the console.

Loose copies sell for close to the original price, with most selling for around $55, while a complete copy can sell for around $80. A complete copy sold on eBay in mid-June 2020 for $170, but it came with the registration card, which is often missing from these games. New copies are rare, but when they do sell, it's often for more than $500. In fact, a June 2020 eBay action racked up more than $1,000 for an unopened copy.

The standard version is worth as much as $400, while the game with light gun can sell for around $250, but the real money comes from the Assassin's Case edition, which came in a silver briefcase that included both the game and the light gun.
