Look at that face. How can anyone not find that face hilariously endearing? Meelo's entire M.O. is being a goofball — intentionally and unintentionally. Every The Legend of Korra scene with Meelo in it never fails to leave me with a smile on my face. He's just that powerful. But the fandom doesn't always appreciate the brilliance that is Meelo. Here are 10 reasons why Meelo deserves more recognition as a national treasure, as a gift to the fans, and as the greatest fartbender of his time.

    Meelo Is A Happy Pill

When we first meet Meelo, he's only five years old. Despite being so young, it's clear Meelo is a happy go lucky little dude who's greatest skill is sussing out what brings him the most joy in that moment and chasing it full-heartedly. As a result, he has a tendency of cheering up the other characters and lightening up more serious scenes. This makes him the happy pill of LOK.

    Meelo Always Has Hilarious Lines

Here are three different tiers of top-notch Meelo lines...

Meelo giving a master class on stranger danger:

    • "Unhand me, strange woman."
    • "You got that right, stranger."

Meelo ending Sokka's career as the funniest person in the ATLA universe:

    • "Be the leaf."
    • "Who is this? It's six in the morning."
    • "I gotta poo really bad."

Meelo reminding others that he's a force to be reckoned with:

    • "I'm not adorable. I'm dangerous."
    • "You can't handle all this Meelo."
    • "Kuvira is going to rue the day she messed with Meelo."

    Meelo Provides Comedic Relief

Photo: The Legend of Korra / Nickelodeon

The Legend of Korra is a much darker show than The Last Airbender. The villains in each LOK season come for blood, raising the stakes for Korra and putting her in situations we never saw Aang endure during his series. Meelo's character is used to lighten LOK up. He provides comedic relief at the most necessary moments, reminding both the show's characters and audiences that laughter and fun are still possible in even the direst of situations. He's a kid navigating a very adult world, and it's his child-like wonder and joy that helps keep a thread of hope alive throughout the series.

    Meelo Is A Certified Snowbender

Like most kids, Meelo has quite the imagination, which makes him resourceful when it comes to fun. In Book 1 Episode 1, "Welcome to Republic City," Meelo is spotted building snowpeople with his sister. His take on a snowperson involves himself wearing the snowperson as a kind of suit he then airbends away, calling this blending of two different elements "snowbending." Genius. Although, considering Meelo is a descendant of both airbenders and waterbenders, it wouldn't have been surprising if he could've snowbended for real.
