While there have been many amazing things to come out of Central and South America, the best export may just be the wonderful world of telenovelas! These incredibly dramatic television series captivate and enthrall their viewers, but the format that makes them famous hasn't stayed south of the border, leaving more and more adaptations (and actors who got their start on telenovelas) making their way into the United States.

Over the years, there have been many TV shows based on or adapted from telenovelas that have premiered in the United States. Many of these series have been based on shows out of Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, and Chile, but there are plenty of other shows to follow the format from other nations. The popularity of the format means it has thoroughly made its way into both English and Spanish-language American television, with Telemundo making most of the Spanish language North American telenovela adaptations and everybody from Nickelodeon to The CW adapting other telenovelas in English.
