Singer Björk Had A Crazy Stalker In Florida Who Filmed Disturbing Videos About Her
People who stalked celebrities rarely turn out to be sane, normal individuals, but the worst celebrity stalkers are the ones who attempt to kill the object of their obsession. Though most of us take interest in the lives of celebrities from afar, few people would ever consider hurting them. However, sometimes interest in celebrities turns into infatuation, which is when things get really dangerous.
This was unfortunately the case for Ricardo Lopez of Hollywood, FL. An obsessive man, Lopez became infamously known as the Björk stalker in 1996. Up until then, the "It's Oh So Quiet" singer had never met Lopez, and had done nothing to provoke him. Regardless, Lopez became so obsessed with the Icelandic popstar that he eventually decided to kill her. Of course, the idea of regular murder did not satisfy Lopez; he needed to find the most twisted method of execution imaginable.
To understand what led Lopez to make an attempt on Björk's life, one must first examine the diary of this delusional stalker. Along the way, all the twists and turns of his sinister scheme will be revealed.
Lopez Tried To Kill Björk With A Letter Bomb Full Of HIV-Infected Needles
When Ricardo Lopez found out that Björk had taken a lover in 1996, he was quickly overcome with jealousy. After spending years fixating on the singer, Lopez had become unreasonably angry and completely delusional. He began formulating plans hurt or perhaps even kill Björk, who was dating a fellow musician named Goldie, and his original plan was to mail her a letter bomb filled with HIV-infected needles. Luckily, this macabre plot didn’t work, which forced the stalker to explore other grisly avenues.
Lopez Hollowed Out A Book And Filled It With Acid
After his plan to send Björk a letter bomb filled with infected needles failed, Lopez looked for another way to inflict pain on the singer. His next scheme still involved a bomb, however this time, he was confident that the weapon would work perfectly.
In September, 1996, Lopez decided to make a new bomb that contained sulfuric acid, and that could be concealed inside a hollowed out book. He put the book in the mail and rigged it with a trigger, hoping that Bjork would open it. If she did, the sulphuric acid would be thrown into her face, killing her. After Lopez sent the deadly book, he planned to take his own life so that he could be reunited with his idol in Heaven.
Lopez Wrote An 803-Page Diary About Björk
The various diaries Ricardo Lopez penned showcase the stalker's true feelings. The contents were written by an individual who was clearly embarrassed about his body, and many entries come off as delusional and unhinged. While Lopez is the main subject of his writings, the stalker also filled an 803-page diary with details relating to his obsession with Björk. Additionally, his video diaries total around 22 hours of footage. A large amount of footage from his diaries — which are still chilling to this day — is now widely accessible to the public.
Lopez Killed Himself On Camera
Ricardo Lopez's video diaries are creepy from start to finish, but nothing is more sinister and gut-wrenching than the note that he ends his final video diary on, which is labeled "The Last Day." Filmed in September, 1996, the videotape was found surrounded by other cassettes, but the eye-catching name caused police to watch it first. When they did, they were greeted by the sight of Lopez sitting calmly with a pistol to his head, while Björk songs played in the background. The worst part is, he speaks rationally, up until he abruptly pulls the trigger.
Lopez's Body Was Found When Blood Started Dripping Into Surrounding Apartments
The police didn’t find Ricardo Lopez's body until four days after his death. The corpse was found after neighbors reported blood dripping through the walls of the apartment below where Lopez lived.
When he was found in September 1996, Lopez's body was badly decomposed, and he had different colors painted on his face. On the walls of the apartment, Lopez had written strange phrases and racist words. Six days after the body was recovered, Björk told the press that she was "very depressed" by the incident.
When Björk Started Dating Another Musician, Lopez Became Unhinged
Three years into Lopez's obsession, the stalker found out that Björk was dating a musician known as Goldie. While it was unacceptable for anyone to date the subject of Lopez's fixation, later evidence also suggests that Lopez was racist, and Goldie's ethnicity may have further influenced his actions. Whatever his reasoning, Lopez was furious about the pair's relationship, and began considering ways he could inflict pain on Björk in retaliation in mid-1996.
