Most people would agree that Rihanna - the highly acclaimed recording artist, entrepreneur, actress, and generally amazing human being - is also one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Unfortunately, Twitter user @alexgracious isn't most people and openly declared to the entirety of the Internet that the Barbadian artist would be "more beautiful" if she were "white" and then Photoshopped her with white skin.
Whitewashing has been a consistent problem in popular media for a long time. People find it offensive not only because it erases and devalues people of color, but also because it reinforces the problematic idea that Eurocentric features and white skin are at the height of beauty standards in Western culture above all other ethnicities.
Understandably, the rest of Twitter had quite a few things to say about this user's terrible Rihanna Photoshop fail.
In July 2017, @alexgracious Tweeted These Images Of Rihanna Photoshopped To Look "White"
rihanna would look so much more beautiful if she was white pic.twitter.com/QqjNnj2V43— ㅤalex (@alexgracious) July 16, 2017
Not only are these images just awful, but it's not the only time @alexgracious has tweeted racially problematic things.
Sadly, Other Twitter Users Have Tried To Do The Same Thing
Beyoncé and Rihanna are pretty being white they would act so diff pic.twitter.com/ZavHdEzMiB— . (@tayfentyy) September 18, 2017
Twitter user @tayfentyy tweeted this in September 2017. Their Twitter bio - "I love trolling :)" - suggests that they may just be trying to jump on the whitewashing bandwagon in an effort to deliberately attract negative attention.
The Rest Of Twitter Was Simply Not Having It...
