Things You Wouldn't Know About Ron Weasley If You've Only Seen The 'Harry Potter' Movies

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, both Harry and Hermione struggle to figure out how to collect Professor Slughorn's memory of teenage Voldemort. Ron, who is in a relationship with Lavender and in a spat with Hermione, is late to the conversation. But when Ron joins the trio again, he suggests that Harry use the Felix Felicis he'd earned in Slughorn's class. Ron gets the idea while Harry talks about his lack of luck related to Slughorn.

Hermione briefly becomes jealous of Ron's ingenious suggestion and wonders why she didn't think of it herself.

Harry is the most gifted student in Defense Against the Dark Arts in his class - he's the only one to receive an Outstanding O.W.L. in the subject. Apart from that subject, though, he and Ron are identical in studies.

To Ron's credit, he has to make do with an inferior wand in his first two years; it belonged to his brother, Charlie, rather than a wand that had chosen him. The fact that Ron keeps up in his studies is actually impressive.

Harry also benefits from the fact that many teachers, such as Gilderoy Lockhart, the fake Mad-Eye Moody, Horace Slughorn, and even Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, tend to show favoritism toward him.

Ron is dragged into the Shrieking Shack by Sirius when the latter is in his Animagus form. When Harry and Hermione find them there, they realize Sirius is present as well. Unlike the movie version of Prisoner of Azkaban, where Ron acts like a total wimp, Ron is the most defiant of the three during this moment.

Hermione is terrified of Sirius and cowers behind Harry, whereas Ron attempts to stand up on his broken leg to defend his best friend. As soon as Ron realizes who Sirius is, he boldly claims that Sirius would have to take his life if he wants to eliminate Harry.

The reason for Ron's intense fear of spiders isn't explained in the movies, but he does reveal the cause in the book version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Ron confesses he's scared of spiders because Fred magically turned his teddy bear into a spider when Ron was just 3 years old. Ron's phobia is thus linked to a traumatic experience as a child, which makes his decision to enter the Acromantula den in the Forbidden Forest all the braver. 

Toward the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the trio falls through the trapdoor onto the Devil's Snare plant. Hermione is the only one who knows how to defeat it, claiming they need fire.

But she is clueless about how they can create flames, and even considers finding wood somewhere. Ron, however, has an outburst that brings her to her senses: He points out that they're magical people and can just create fire through their wands. Hermione overcomes her hysteria and casts the charm.

Before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Ron receives a letter from Hogwarts letting him known he is the male Gryffindor House prefect. Ron is astonished to see his prefect badge and is initially mocked by Fred and George for it.

Ron later uses the goodwill from the event to ask Mrs. Weasley for a new broomstick. His mother obliges as part of his reward, which turns out to be a planned move on Ron's part; he intends to try out as the Gryffindor Quidditch team's Keeper.

Ron is successful in tryouts and simultaneously becomes the House's Keeper and prefect.
