The 15 Goriest Moments on Supernatural

For a show that’s mainly about family, Supernatural surely knows how to scare the bejesus out of its audience when the situation calls for it. Although the series currently has a tendency to lean more on the emotional rather than the horror factor, violent Supernatural moments were a common occurrence during the show’s early run.

Ghosts, ghouls, shapeshifters, vampires – all the creatures from the fictional Winchester universe brought a certain amount of creepiness to the screen. Plus, the series showcased some of the grossest deaths on TV, so there’s plenty of material to choose from when highlighting the most brutal scenes on Supernatural.

Whether you’re freaked out by blood, insects, or bloody decapitations, Supernatural has something for everyone. If you’re squeamish or just had dinner, though, avert your eyes. Some of these moments are a little hard to stomach. Here’s a comprehensive list of gory scenes from Supernatural. Not recommended for the faint of heart.

    • Episode: “My Bloody Valentine” (Season 5, episode 14)

When the intro for the episode is this gross, you know you’re in for a gory treat. Around Valentine’s Day, people get killed in odd ways. For instance, this couple takes things a bit too far on the first date and the two end up eating chunks of each other. Eww. The Winchesters, aided by Castiel, believe it’s the work of a Cupid, or low-level angel, but it turns out Famine is actually responsible for the bloody mess. He may look like an old, frail man, but we all know the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse don’t like to mess around.

    • Episode: “You Can't Handle the Truth” (Season 6, episode 6)

If you're not a big fan of the dentist, this one might strike pretty close to home. In this Supernatural episode, Veritas, the goddess of truth, makes a special appearance. Her mighty power? She causes people who demand to know what’s what to get a harsh dose of truth from their loved ones and eventually commit suicide. Her presence also makes people confess to things they would rather keep private. When a pedophile tells the dentist he raped the dentist's young daughter, the dentist freaks and literally drills him to death. Yikes!

    • Episode: “Metamorphosis” (Season 4, episode 4)

Jack was seemingly a regular dude until he started eating raw meat and found out he’s a rougarou. If he eats human flesh, his transformation will be complete. The brothers advise him to control his urges but Travis, another hunter, decides to take matters into his own hands. He attacks Jacks and his wife and plans to burn them both alive, since the wife is pregnant with another rougarou. Jack escapes and attacks Travis, eating copious amounts of his neck. He continues to eat until there’s little left of the hunter, completing his transformation is a gruesome manner.

Sam Gets His Fingernail Pulled Out (On Christmas!)

    • Episode: “A Very Supernatural Christmas” (Season 3, episode 8)

Um, hello, Christmas is a time of joy! Unfortunately, that’s not the case for the Winchesters. Although this episode packs some highly emotional moments between the brothers, the climax is them being tortured by pagan gods. How rude! During the confrontation, Sam gets his fingernail pulled out, which is probably painful, but ultimately even harder to watch. The gods move to pull out one of Dean’s teeth, but the brothers manage to escape. That’s nice, since they probably don’t have any dental insurance.

    Man Lands on Table Saw

Episode: “The Kids Are Alright” (Season 3, episode 2)

Okay, looking back, turns out Season 3 was probably the most visually horrific installment Supernatural has delivered, and this episode might just take the cake for most gruesome ever. It involves kids being replaced by creatures called changelings, which is creepy enough by itself. And yet, right at the very beginning, we get to see a man landing on a table saw, an image that will haunt us forever. Plus, the episode is packed with horror sequences – the kids’ gory reflections, the mom who tries to kill her daughter because she’s someone else, and so on. Not keen on re-watching this one anytime soon.

Dean Gets Shredded to Bits by a Hellhound

    • Episode: “No Rest for the Wicked” (Season 3, episode 16)

The season three finale had all the ingredients for a memorable episode: Lilith in the body of an innocent girl, heartfelt moments between the brothers, a splash of Bobby’s ingenuity, and an ending we’re still recovering from, after all these years. When Dean sold his soul to a crossroads demon to save Sam, we never thought he would actually go to hell. Surely the brothers will find a way to go around the deal. Boy, were we wrong.

The episode marks the end of the year Dean was granted to live. During a confrontation between Lilith and the brothers, we see the older Winchester being mauled to death in horrific fashion by a hellhound, while Sam watches helplessly from the sidelines. Sad and gross at the same time.
